Villainous Fun at Villains Unleashed 2014

My husband, Greg, and I attended the separate-ticket event on August 23, 2014, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The event started at 8:00pm, but they let us in at 7:00pm. Upon entering the party, we received a times guide that included a map of the special events, and a special Photo Pass on a lanyard.
The first thing we did was ride Toy Story Midway Mania, followed by a ride on the Rock n Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, both with minimal wait times. After that we headed over to the Studio Prop Shop to pick up some commemorative merchandise. The line was so long we decided to skip it and go get something to eat at the Back Lot Grille. Greg topped off his meal with the Maleficent cupcake that was chocolate with a rich blackberry filling and blackberry buttercream icing. After dinner, we took some time walking around and enjoying the wandering evil characters, including Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Big Bad Wolf, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella, Storm Troopers, Jawas, and many others.
After enjoying the wandering characters, we boarded Star Tours – The Adventures Continue with no wait time. Then we waited 45 minutes in line to visit with Darth Vader. He was very entertaining, having people pose in very entertaining ways, and feigning embarrassment when couples would kiss in front of him.
It was time to head over to the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater to see Fantasmic, complete with a special villians pre-show that was just lacking Disney Magic. It was hosted by a small group of performers by the name of Night Crawlers. Their story was that they were a gang of hench men from the houses of Jafar, Scar, and Cruella de Vil. They led the audience in an off-key sing-a-long, and a short trivia game that had nothing to do with villains. The pre-show unfortunately felt like it was put together that afternoon.
Fantasmic, however, was action-packed and beautifully done, as always. It featured the Glow with the Show ears, which glow to match the lights on the stage. There were other events that evening that we did not have time to participate in, but were offered. They included Club Evil at the Hollywood Brown Derby, which had special food and drink offerings. Complimentary face-painting was featured at the Villians Exscream Makeovers booth, along with Great Hades Hangout, a Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Tape dance party, and Oogie Boogie’s Freaky Funhouse Show.
The evening concluded with one of the most amazing and radiant “Villains in the Sky” Fireworks Spectacular, that was hosted by Maleficent and worked with the Glow with the Show Mickey ears, just like Fantasmic. The 15-minute Fireworks show included many different shapes that danced in the sky. The live pre-show seamlessly matched the show in the sky, and as the last fireworks launched, Maleficent was back on stage to end the night. We will definitely be back for more Villainous events in 2015!
