A Little Taste of the South
Missy RyanDecember 27, 2016During my most recent trip to Walt Disney World I was able to dine at Boatswright’s located at Port Orleans Riverside Resort. Since we were staying at Port Orleans I knew this experience was a must. The detail alone to decor was a real eye catcher, with their half built riverboat which hangs inside the dining room upside down.Upon checking in you will notice a smaller dining room with a cozy fireplace and more intimate feel. The ceilings are low and give off the impression of a homier atmosphere. The second dining room is a bit more relaxed and gives you the feel of visiting someone in New Orleans for dinner. Everything about both of these rooms are inviting and warm. As with so many restaurants, the theme is well done here. With all the little touches, you have a sense that you have been transported to a ship yard in Louisiana. Personally, I really appreciate a well decorated restaurant. I like how it magnifies the experience. Depending on the location, I like the way Disney makes you feel as if you are actually visiting that part of the world. Now let’s focus on the main reason for the restaurant’s existence, and that would be no other than the food!Your meal starts with baskets of warm corn bread, a meal and delight in itself. I may or may not have asked for a few baskets to go so I could enjoy them on my plane ride back. As for the main dishes, they are all par to the course. I was able to enjoy the delicious and popular meal known as Jambalaya. As they say, “when in Rome”…or New Orleans, or just a good southern restaurant in Port Orleans. The jambalaya was comfort food with a hint of creamy spice topped with sausage and shrimp. Other tasty dishes offered were gumbo, prime rib, chicken, salmon salad, crawfish and beef. Although the meals are very southern and uphold their spicy reputation, there is a menu designed for younger taste buds that are friendlier and appealing for the not so spicy fans. Kid meals range from cheese burgers, chicken nuggets and cheese pizza. Little ones will enjoy the experience as much as the next guest.Overall, I am happy I was able to visit Boatwrights and experience this southern atmosphere. I encourage anyone who is in the area of Port Orleans Riverside, to take a break and stop by for a little taste of the south. If you would like to know more information about dining experiences or resorts in Walt Disney World, please email me at missyr@wishesfamilytravel.com.You can also follow me on FacebookI would love to help your family plan a magical vacation!!
