A Taste of the Mediterranean at Mythos!

Rebecca Jones10.9.18On a chilly Saturday afternoon in January, my daughter, Annemarie, and I walked into the stony structure of Mythos in Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park. We didn’t have reservations, but I’d heard wonderful things about this restaurant, and I was willing to wait for a table. It was so popular, but I was impressed that our wait was only about 30 minutes before they found us a table.f-26-20-11818144_1sK8iFlf_Mythos_menuFor our appetizer, we ordered the Spanakopita Dip, described on the menu as “a savory blend of spinach, feta cheese, lemon and fresh herbs, served hot with fresh pita chips seasoned with za’atar spice, with fresh cucumber, tomato, and olives.” It was delicious. I love any kind of cheesy dip, so this was a great variation on an old standby for me.While we waited for our main dishes, I really had an opportunity to look around at Mythos, the restaurant. The interior reminded me of a washed-out cavern. The walls are made to look like huge amounts of water have spent hundreds of years carving out a space just for you. Their curvy, almost billowy, shapes are relaxing and interesting to look at. I was immediately comfortable there. There is also an open kitchen, where you can watch the chefs and wait staff preparing your dishes.f-26-14-11818144_ZP4Dc6GX_Mythos_Exterior_and_KitchenOur lunches arrived. I had ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos, and Annemarie chose the Crispy Crab Cake Sandwich. The tacos had a slaw and spicier sauce on them, which normally I wouldn’t go for. I am not a huge fan of spicy foods, but the fish and the veggies calmed the sauce down enough for me to enjoy them. My daughter ended up taking the crab cake out of the sandwich to eat it, and the portion was so large she couldn’t finish it. We both enjoyed the potato salad, although it was a bit creamy for her taste. The highlight of the meal was, hands-down, dessert. We shared the Chocolate-Hazelnut Crème Brulee, and I wish we hadn’t. Shared, that is. I wish I had ordered my own serving of this amazing creation. I always try to find a good crème brulee while I’m on vacation, and this was quite possibly the best variation I’ve ever tasted. I would go back to Mythos simply to have this dessert again. It was that good.f-26-15-11818144_vtOO8X7I_Mythos_foodBy far, our lunch at Mythos was the best meal we had during our three-day weekend at Universal Orlando Resort. The tastes were decadent and rich, while being casual enough to not be intimidating.Reservations are recommended for Mythos, and can be made 30 days prior to your dining date. Their hours vary, but they are only open for lunch, not dinner. If you have questions about Mythos, or would like to include a meal here on your next Universal Orlando Resort vacation, I’d love to help you.
