Amphicars at Disney Springs
28 June | Leslie Dinuzio
Is it a boat or is it a car? Guess what, it’s both! In Disney Springs, if you look out into the water near the Boathouse Restaurant, you may see quite a sight. There are several 1960’s looking cars that appear to be driving through the water. Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Those are Amphicars and can be booked (first come first serve, no reservations) at The Boathouse. Your party will be chauffeured throughout the lagoon by your driver- or maybe they're your Captain?
During a recent trip, my teenagers and I experienced the cars firsthand. We did have to wait a little over an hour for our turn and enjoyed a cold beverage at The Boathouse overlooking the water while we waited. Your party can sign up for the car right in the gift shop and staff will send you a text message when it’s your turn. You can eat, drink, or shop throughout Disney Springs while awaiting your turn.
We learned from our Captain that the cars were manufactured in Germany and only a handful remain. We were told the owner of the Boathouse restaurant also owns the cars. There are eight cars in use, four in the water and four always being serviced to confirm they remain in tip-top shape.
It’s a fun experience! Throughout your 20-minute or so tour, which starts on the boat ramp, you’ll circle the lagoon amidst Disney Springs. Definitely a different perspective looking at all the restaurants from the water! Be prepared that other visitors to Disney Springs will regularly wave, take photos and video of your car. If you float close enough to the Paddlefish restaurant, you can wave at dining patrons.
I would love to help plan a fun Disney trip that can always include time to experience Disney Springs! Please contact me at Leslie@wishesfamilytravel.com
