Dining At Tiana's Place Aboard the Disney Wonder
Juli Russ10.23.18Tiana’s Place is a restaurant exclusive to the Disney Wonder and is included in the ship’s rotational dining. The Princess and the Frog inspired restaurant opened in 2016 as part of the Wonder’s refurbishment. As soon as I heard about this new restaurant aboard the Wonder, I was very excited to try it as I love New Orleans, jazz and Cajun cuisine. The minute you walk into the restaurant you feel as though you have stepped into a Supper Club on Bourbon Street. The entrance is lined with French Quarter balconies, subtle lighting and Mardi Gras beads. When you enter the restaurant, you will feel an instant vibe of fun as you hear the Crawfish Crooners playing jazz music on the stage. The music is a wonderful enhancement to the dining experience at Tiana’s Place. You will notice as you sit down at your table beautiful antique looking water glasses in different colors and placemats in the shape of lily pads. The dinner plates even have cute little frog accents. The New Orleans inspired menu will not disappoint! From appetizers like Boudin Sausage Fritters to Sautéed Gulf Shrimp and Grits to dessert of Buttermilk Beignets, every course was delicious. The fritters reminded me of Boudin I had in New Orleans, unusual but good. The gulf shrimp was cooked perfectly and the bits of goat cheese and drizzle of BBQ sauce gave the appetizer a great flavor. For our entrees my son and I chose Big Daddy’s Roasted Prime-Rib of Beef because I never pass up prime rib! It was cooked perfectly, however the potato that accompanied it was a little dry. My husband decided to try the Cajun Spiced Sea Bass on Shrimp Jambalaya. He thought the meal had good flavor but he was hoping it would have been slightly spicier. We all saved room for dessert and all opted for the Buttermilk Beignets with Espresso Chocolate Dipping Sauce. The beignets were a bit denser than the beignets I have had in New Orleans but still worth trying.Tiana and Louis stop by each table to say hello, take pictures and sign autographs. Tiana was very sweet and chatted with me about how much she loved her restaurant. The highlight of the evening for me was when Tiana led a parade of staff, passengers and the Crooners around the restaurant. It was very reminiscent of the traditional New Orleans parades called 2nd Lines.Tiana’s Place is my new favorite restaurant among the Disney Cruise Ships. The fully immersive atmosphere made the experience one of a kind. The décor, food and entertainment were all top notch. I am excited to sail on the Disney Wonder and dine at Tiana’s place again soon.I would love to help you plan a cruise aboard the Disney Wonder also.
