Disney Fan Friday: Main Street USA Magic Kingdom
“Clang, clang, clang went the trolley! Ding, ding, ding went the bell!”By: Allison FlynnSeptember 4, 2015Stepping onto Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort makes my heartstrings go zing, zing, zing, just as it says in “The Trolley Song.” As others rush down Main Street to make it onto their can’t-miss morning ride, I like to take my time visiting the stores, having a coffee break or talking with the citizens. You didn’t know there were citizens on Main Street? Well, you’re in for a treat! There are magical moments to be made in the Magic Kingdom - and you don’t even have to leave Main Street to make them. It’s always amazing to me how the people playing Cinderella, Anna, Elsa or even Buzz and Woody manage to stay in character. But, because they do, you know what to expect from them. The residents of Main Street U.S.A. … well, it’s best to expect the unexpected! On one vacation we even had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Main Street. He decided to join all of us who were having lunch at The Plaza. He came in, gave a proclamation and then checked to see if we were having a pleasant day. Following lunch he greeted us again as we made our way back toward Main Street. If you don’t want to venture down Main Street on foot, I recommend waiting for the trolley as you enter the gates to the Magic Kingdom. And you can’t mention the trolley without talking about the Main Street Trolley Show. Singing and dancing and frivolity come along with these special performers.A variety of other musical artists can be found on Main Street too - the Dapper Dans Barbershop Quartet performs several times a day, singing familiar tunes from across the years. We especially love the Main Street Philharmonic. As former marching band members, this performance is right up our alley! One of the most magical moments we’ve ever had happened on Main Street. During our December 2012 visit to Walt Disney World, our oldest son (an only child at the time) was chosen to start the 3 o’clock parade. In addition to announcing it was time for the parade, he received a coloring book filled with pictures of the various rides and attractions in Magic Kingdom, exclusive button pins and a certificate stating that he’d kicked off the parade on 12-12-12.Next time you head to Magic Kingdom, take a moment to pause on Main Street to soak in the magic found there. I promise it’s worth it!Follow Concierge Agent Allison Flynn on Facebook. Contact her via email at allisonf@wishesfamilytravel.com.
