DisneyBand+ making its way to Disney Cruise Line this Summer

If you have ever been to Disney World you should know about MagicBands and the MagicBand+ that Disney came out with in 2022 at Walt Disney World as part of their 50th anniversary celebration.

The Disney Parks Blog shared the great news that the DisneyBand+ will be coming to Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise Line embarked on its 25th anniversary this summer and I for one am thrilled to know that this great technology used in the parks is coming to the Cruise line.

The DisneyBand+ will be made available in limited preview opportunities for guests sailing on the Disney Wish before any of the other Disney ships (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.) It is said to work much like they do in the parks and resorts, and will be a great accessory for guest to enhance their Disney Cruise vacation.

Guests cruising on a Disney ship can use DisneyBand+ to unlock stateroom doors without having to dig for a keycard, and to charge purchases including food and beverage items not already included in the cost of the cruise and shopping to their rooms. Little ones on Disney Cruise Line ships (children ages 3 to 12) will also be able to replace the Oceaneer Club Band with the DisneyBand+ to access Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Scuttle’s Cove on Disney Castaway Cay.

Disney Cruise Line has not yet revealed what they will be yet but, there will also be magical touches throughout the ship. I would assume they will be much like what is available in the parks, but we will see!

At Walt Disney World, DisneyBand+ interacts with nighttime fireworks spectaculars, and the character statues that were installed across all four parks during the 50th anniversary of the resort. Additionally, DisneyBand+ can be used for special interactive experiences in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Using the DisneyBand+ in the Disney parks for the Memory Maker makes it so much easier to get your photos, there are similar setups in place on Disney Cruise Line with Cast Member photographers. The new DisneyBand+ will make it easier for guests to collect their photos after they’re taken and to view which ones they would like to purchase before the end of their cruise.

Oh, and don’t worry, the DisneyBand+ is waterproof. If you are like me, I love to be in the pool on the ship or on the beach at Disney Castaway Cay You won’t have to take your band on and off!

Disney shared additional information on the new bands in the video below:

The DisneyBand+ is not included in the cost of your vacation but it will be an option to add on to your vacation. You do not have to buy the DisneyBand+ if you do not want to. Stateroom access, photos and other experiences will remain available to guests on board without the DisneyBand+. There will be a few that you will need the DisneyBand+ for, as in the parks with the character statue interactions. We do not know what these will be yet onboard the cruises, but I will let you know when I do. I will continue to keep an eye out for the latest news from Disney Cruise Line on the new DisneyBand+ and its arrival in the summer on the Disney Wish!
