March 12, 2015By Elizabeth LollisAre you ready to let your creative juices flow?  Are you a crafty person and love Disney?  If so, I have the perfect project for you.  If you are planning a Disney vacation, or just love wearing Disney attire, this is just for you.   I’m sure if your children are anything like mine, you have some stained t-shirt laying around your house.  Let’s put those t-shirts to use and make something magical.  Here are the easy to follow instruction on your can make a DIY (Do It Yourself) Mickey Head Tie Dyed Shirt at home! The supplies you will needSupplies you will need:*1 t-shirt per person*rubber bands*waxed dental floss & needle*tie dye mix*Mickey Mouse head cutout and scissors*plastic wrap*squirt bottles (most dye kits come with these already) Let’s get started

  1.  Cute the Mickey Mouse head out and trace on your shirt.Trace the Mickey Head on to your T Shirt

  1.  Thread your needle with the waxed dental floss.  Make sure you tie it long enough to go around the entire head.  Also, leave about 4″ of string hanging out when you begin.  Use a straight stitch to go around the entire head. Very Easy!

  1.  Once you have sewn all the way around, make sure your beginning and end thread are on the same side of the shirt.  Pull strings tightly and tie in knot, so that Mickey is puckered and sticks out to the front.

  1.  Put a rubber band tightly around the base of the Mickey head.

  1.  Once you have Mickey rubber banded, you may then die this part of shirt.  I held over the sink and poured the dye on only this part of the shirt.  Then, squeeze the access out and wrap in plastic wrap, so it doesn’t get all over the rest of the shirt.

  1.   Lay shirt flat with Mickey’s head pointing up.  Using your puckered Mickey head, grab about where the rubber bands are & start twisting.  Keep going until you end up with a circular shape.  Tuck any stray pieces in.  Use additional rubber bands to hold together.

  1.  Make sure you wear gloves, if not you’ll end up with rainbow hands.  And from experience it is hard to get off.  Complete the rest of the dying process.  It is ok if your colors run together, it makes a really unique shirt.

  1.  I always put my shirt in a plastic bag to dry.  Once dried, unwrap everything and TA-DA look at what you created.
