Festival of the Lion King at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park
Festival of the Lion King ROARS!
By Penny SheltonMay 21, 2015Festival of the Lion King is a live musical stage show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. This production is performed with Broadway style pageantry and is based on the popular animated film The Lion King. It is filled with music, dance numbers, visual effects and the usage of animatronic and live performers. It is a feast for the senses and one you won’t want to miss! The show is presented in the new enclosed and air conditioned Harambe theater in the Land of Africa. As guests arrive they are put into 4 sections of the theater (If you have a child who would like to participate in the show, you will want to sit as close to the stage as possible. They might be chosen by a cast member to join the show. If not sit anywhere as there is not a bad seat in the house.) Each section is labeled after a different animal. You have the Warthog section, Lion section, Elephant section and the Giraffe section. These sections allow for audience participation throughout the show. Get ready to bleat, roar, trumpet and snort! The show begins as four amazingly costumed and talented performers fill the stage area for the tribal celebration! They are joined by four parade style floats that are elaborately decorated and adorned with animatronic characters of Simba on pride rock an Elephant waving his trunk, aGiraffe moving its neck, and there is even one with the loveable Pumbaa and Timon on it. The floats and characters are enormous and something you have to see! They interact with the live performers and bring a special quality to the show that Disney is known for.The celebration continues with the audience being introduced to Tumble Monkeys that swing, flip and fly in a Cirque du Soleil style routine through the air and around the stage area to the tune of Hakuna Matata. Many of the film’s award winning musical tunes can be heard throughout this program. One of the film’s most celebrated songs, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”, is performed magnificently, and incorporates an aerial ballet routine that is just visually stunning! These qualities make Festival of the Lion King fun for audiences of all ages. Even though the show hasn't changed much over the years, I still look forward to seeing it again and again. It is a must see attraction when visiting Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. For more information on the parks at Walt Disney World, contact Penny Shelton, at Penny@WishesFamilyTravel.com or your Wishes Family Travel agent.
