How to Find Your Luggage in a Sea of Suitcases

I’m going to give you a list of 5 ways to quickly and easily identify your suitcase while at an airport.

  1. Duct Tape. These days, duct tape is actually rather stylish. I have a cousin who made his entire prom suit out of duct tape and it was pretty cool. There are so many different patterns that you can choose, from tape that looks like the galaxy to the puzzle design for Autism Awareness. You have bright colors to choose from or of course plain ol’ grey. All you have to do is put a strip of your favorite duct tape across the top and/or bottom of your luggage on both sides and it will distinguish yours from everyone else’s.
  2. Monograms. This one is fun and easy to do yourself. Find some fabric that you like, again, a brightly colored material will work best, and either free-hand or use a stencil of a large letter of your last name. Cut it out and glue it to your suitcase. If you wanted to make it extra fun, you could outline it with some twine or rope of some sort. Hot glue works wonders for this kind of project.
  3. Luggage Handle Covers. If you are handy with fabric, needle and thread, this would be a fun way to individualize your suitcase. Simply stated, you sew together 2 (4”x4”) squares of material, stitch on a piece of Velcro to the two ends and wrap it around the handle to your luggage. Voila! A luggage handle cover and a unique way to identify your bag.
  4. Large/Bright Colored/Unique Luggage Tags. You want to easily spot your bag, therefore you want something that will stand out in a crowd, right? How about a Big Olaf tag, or a BB8 tag, or a Hot Pink tag? Anything that is out of the ordinary and grabs attention will work and when you combine it with your personal information, how could you go wrong?
  5. Ribbon. The simplest way to identify your luggage while at the airport is to tie a large, colorful ribbon to the handle or zipper of your suitcase. This works best if you find a material that will stand out, something with bright colors, polka dots, stripes, plaid, some sort of print that is different than what most people would use. The more unique the ribbon, the better chances you have of spotting it. You could even tie together two or three different ribbons to make sure that what you have will be completely different than what anyone else might think about.

Airports are not perfect, as much as we wish they were; things happen. Sometimes, luggage tags break off and you want to make sure that you can easily identify your bag at lost and found. A good way to make sure it is easily identified is to put a second luggage tag on the inside of your bag. Make sure it has your name and a way to contact you via phone number or email address. I add one to the inside zipper of my bag and it doesn’t get in the way and gives me a little more peace of mind.f-26-15-13202313_0NLS6VZ9_AK_Luggage_ID_Blog_photo_2My name is April Kemper and I am a Concierge Travel Agent with Wishes Family Travel.
