Incredible Edible Easter Egg displays at Walt Disney World Resort
Allison Flynn2.25.20I’ve always been fascinated by Easter eggs of all shapes and sizes, colors and textures. So imagine my delight at being able to see ornately carved – from chocolate, no less! – Easter eggs during our spring break Walt Disney World Resort vacation. While Easter doesn’t get quite the attention Christmas or Fall does at Walt Disney World, it isn’t a time period to be discounted. There’s opportunities to meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny in Magic Kingdom, visiting the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, and if you’re lucky, a special appearance by the Azalea Trail Maids just before the Festival of Fantasy Parade in Magic Kingdom. The Easter Eggs are found at the resorts around Walt Disney World. These are easy to visit, especially those found at resorts on the monorail loop – Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. We reserved dinner at Chef Mickey’s on Easter Sunday just so we could resort hop to see these edible works of art.Created by the Walt Disney World Resort pastry chefs, eggs are oversized – weighing in between 9 and 12 pounds and standing at 16 to 20 inches tall. And they are completely edible! Characters, objects, and all of the components that create the scene of the egg are made from modeling chocolate, fondant, royal icing, sugar, sugar sculptures, and colored cocoa butter. I’ll be you can smell it, can’t you? Most of the eggs have an obvious Disney theme – with characters like Minnie Mouse and Stitch. But some were crafted to look like other beloved films like “The Wizard of Oz.” This egg recreated scenes from Dorothy’s house dropping on the Witch of the East, Munchkin City, and Emerald City. And actually, this has a Disney tie, as it remembers the scene in the late, great “The Great Movie Ride” that is no longer open in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was really tough to pick which egg was my favorite, because they were all magnificent. If I had to settle on one, it would be one of Stitch because I love him.If you’d like to see the resort Easter egg displays, you’ll want to time your Walt Disney World Resort visit to the period three weeks or closer to Easter. The egg displays come down pretty quickly after the holiday; during our visit they were scheduled just for a few days after Easter itself.Displays are in the resort lobbies, and you do not have to be staying at the resort to visit.
