Kids Perspective of Disney Cruise Line Alaskan Itinerary
Audrey Willis4.14.20Last summer, we went on our first Disney Cruise Line vacation with my parents and our two sons, Kyle, age 16 and Keegan, age 6. I sat down with the boys to hear their thoughts about sailing on the Disney Wonder with the Alaskan itinerary out of Vancouver. Overall, we found it to be the best vacation we have had as a family, and we are looking forward to our next Disney Cruise adventure! What did you enjoy about visiting Vancouver the day before our cruise?Kyle: Tim Horton’s, the Olympic Cauldron and Stanley Park.We don’t have Tim Horton’s in Texas, so this was a first for all of us. The Olympic Cauldron was just a short walk from the cruise terminal, and it was neat to see even without flames. We walked all around Stanley Park, it is a beautiful area of Vancouver, and you forget you are even near a large city.Keegan: FlyOver Canada and seeing the totem poles. The totem poles were in Stanley Park, and FlyOver Canada is located at the cruise terminal, Canada Place. FlyOver Canada was like Soarin’ at Epcot but longer, and we “flew” over the different Canadian Provinces. What was your favorite activity on the cruise ship? Kyle: I don’t know…I loved every minute of it!He spent a lot of time in Vibe and hanging out in the common areas around the pool and sports deck. Keegan: The Slinky Dog slide. The slide is in Disney’s Oceaneer Club; I loved that the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab were connected via an internal hallway. We could go to either desk, and they could tell us where he was located by his magic band. Where was your favorite place to eat? Kyle: Tiana’s Place! This was my favorite too! Tiana and Louis both made appearances, and there was live music during dinner, not to mention the yummy food! Keegan: Triton’s.He loved Triton’s! We sat right next to the mosaic mural featuring Triton, Ariel, and friends. What was your favorite show? Kyle: “Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic”This is a live stage show that takes you into the dreams of a little girl and visits classic characters which leaves you aspiring to believe in yourself. Keegan: Golden Mickey’s!He loved this so much that we bought our own Golden Mickey to bring back with us. Per www.disneycruise.go.com “You’re invited to a Hollywood-style awards show with spectacular songs and special appearances by Mickey and friends. Delight in a very special night of Disney’s cinematic magic while celebrating the star in us all.” What was your favorite excursion? Kyle: Visiting Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. We chose the Experience Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier excursion, visiting Mendenhall Glacier, Macaulay Salmon Hatchery and the Alaska State Museum.Keegan: Holding the sled dog puppies, because they were the cutest! We did the Klondike Family Challenge, which included panning for gold, designing a bottle label, and then actually bottling our own root beer! After visiting the 40 degrees below zero chamber, we enjoyed a buffet lunch followed by smores and songs around a fire. But our favorite part was watching a sled dog demonstration and holding the puppies! What is something other kids your age should know about Disney Cruise Line? Kyle: The teen club is awesome! He was in Vibe, and we barely saw him the entire cruise since he spent so much time with his new friends.Keegan: You get to meet characters and have fun on the boat.We met classic characters, such as Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. Along with Captain Hook and Stitch, we even met Marvel characters; including Black Widow! What will you remember most? Kyle: Friends that I met in Vibe.He talks to several other kids from the cruise almost daily, and he has even met up with two of them at Disney World! Keegan: Not swimming.Ha! It was too cold for us Texans to swim most days! I’d love to answer any questions you may have if you are considering a Disney Cruise adventure, especially to Alaska!
