Magical Stays: Discovering the Best Disneyland Hotel for Your Family Adventure

Welcome to the most magical neighborhood in California, the home of Disneyland, where dreams come true, and the enchantment doesn't end when the parks close for the night. Tucked within Disneyland Resort are three distinct properties, each offering a unique experience that will leave you feeling like royalty. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned Disney fan, these hotels are the perfect way to extend the magic of your vacation. Come with me as we embark on a whimsical journey through the Disneyland Hotels, and a Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel, and explore the enchanting lodgings that await you.

In February 2024, I was able to experience these resorts for myself and can’t wait to share my experience with you.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Starting our stay at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel had me spoiled from the start. Walking into the lobby was nostalgic for me…it gives major Wilderness Lodge vibes and made me feel like I was at Walt Disney World. The atmosphere was so calm and welcoming, accompanied by a gifted pianist playing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” on a grand piano in the 4-story lobby.

The pools and restaurants here are serene; you would never know you are right in the middle of one of the world’s most popular theme parks. The rooms are comfortable and inviting. Décor mimics a family cabin, and it is easy to feel at home.

The best part about this resort…Actually, the two best things about the Grand Californian is that (1) it is situated in the middle of Downtown Disney, so you have quick access to all the shops and restaurants, and (2) you get a private entrance to Disney California Adventure. This was so amazing for my tired feet at the end of the day.

Disneyland Hotel

Moving to the Disneyland Hotel was a dream! When you think of staying AT Disneyland, you think of this hotel. The theming is both sentimental and contemporary. Amidst the enchanting gardens and towering palm trees, the iconic Disneyland Hotel stands as a testament to the vintage charm of what makes Disneyland so iconic. This hotel offers a great blend of modern comforts with a sprinkle of pixie dust magic with the Monorail-themed pool at the center of it all. Don’t forget to visit Goofy’s Kitchen for an energetic character dining experience with Goofy and all his pals.

My favorite part was the detailing in the rooms; Mickey heads on the faucet handles, Mickey hands holding the wall sconces at the sink, but mostly, the castle light-up headboard that plays “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes”. It is absolutely magical! We would leave the headboard on whenever we were in the room and would have it play the song before we went to bed!

Disneyland Hotel is on the opposite end of Downtown Disney from the parks, so there is a little more walking involved when staying here but very doable.

Pixar Place Hotel

The enchanting Pixar Place Hotel is vibrant with every nook and cranny paying homage to our favorite Pixar characters. You can find characters in plain sight as well as those hidden in the carpeting or wallpaper (or in one of the three elevators). Outside you will find the most incredible Finding Nemo pool and play area; this area is an absolute must for all ages.

While I was not able to stay at Pixar Place Hotel, I took some time to explore the hotel, tour the colorful new rooms and enjoy an amazing meal at the new Great Maple Modern American Eatery. Great Maple mixes Pixar characters with a beautiful sophistication that is timeless, and worth the time to slow down and relax with some fun drinks and amazing food.

Pixar Place Hotel is the neighbor to Disneyland Hotel both sitting on one end of Downtown Disney.

Castle Inn & Suites

Castle Inn & Suites is one of the Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels, meaning that it is not a Disney hotel but it is recognized by Disney and can be included in a vacation package. This hotel is perfect when you are working with a tighter budget. The theming here seemed outdated at first, but then I realized that it went perfectly with the old castle theme…duh! We got upgraded at check-in from a standard room (two double beds) to a suite (two double beds and a living area). The rooms were nice and clean, but a little dark (or you could call them medieval feeling).

The morning walk to the Disneyland entrance wasn’t bad, we just needed to leave extra time knowing that it would take us a little longer to get there. However, at the end of the day, having spent a long time on our feet, it was a little much for me.

Conclusion

While I highly recommend staying at one of the three Disney hotels, I also know that that is not always doable. Ultimately, there is a hotel that can fit any budget when making Disneyland your home. It is important to know your needs and wants while also sticking to your budget so that you can relax and enjoy the magic that awaits you.

Thank you so much to Disney for hosting me for a portion of my stay. This gave me the opportunity to experience my first visit to Disneyland. Disney hosted me at the Disneyland Hotel. Accommodations at Grand Californian and Castle Inn & Suites were paid for using rates available to the general public. Although Disney hosted me for a portion of my stay, it has in no way impacted the feedback included in this blog post.
