Making Magic By Working For Wishes

By: Allison FlynnTeacupsSince my very first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort in 2001, I’d dreamed of going back. In 2011, my family finally returned to celebrate my oldest son’s fifth birthday. Even more hooked than before, we’ve been back to WDW every year since.Planning our trips down to every detail is a favorite pastime of mine, so when I saw that Wishes Family Travel was recruiting agents to specialize in Disney Destinations, my interest was piqued. But, I had zero experience as a travel agent - other than handling details for my own family’s vacations! On a whim, I contacted another agent to ask about what it was like to work for Wishes. She assured me that if I truly loved Disney, then I’d love this job. So, I applied. After passing through several interviews with other members of the team, I interviewed with Shellie Wylie (Wishes owner) and accepted a position as a concierge agent in January. My concerns over having no experience were quickly put to rest as I went through training. Each aspect of serving as a concierge agent was thoroughly covered, and experienced agents were more than willing to help me out when I needed more information.I’ve never worked in a mostly virtual work environment - as Wishes agents cover a lot of territory geographically - but I’ve found that the distance doesn’t matter; we all meet online and support each other just as much as we would if we worked in adjoining cubicles. Now I’m putting my love of all things Disney and my organizational skills to use to help make magical vacations for others. Working for Wishes has far exceeded my expectations!
