My Disney World Adult Only Anniversary!

Our 10 year Anniversary….Disney style

By Amy BaranekLast year my husband and I were discussing our 10 year anniversary. We kept coming back to Disney but were feeling that pain of guilt. Could we go without taking our 5 and 7 year old boys?  As we talked about it, we started discussing all the things we could do without the kids. That’s when we decided to book our vacation!

Be an Adult but act like a child!

Let me start by saying that if you are grappling with a similar decision, DO IT! Disney is the place where you can be an adult but act like a child. We wore our Anniversary pins given to us by Disney every day.  We stayed at Beach Club Resort as it was within walking distance to theMagic KingdomInternational gateway in Epcot. This is a great perk if you want to enjoy an evening stroll through some of the countries. It was also close to the Boardwalk which is full of nightlife. Our first night we made early dining reservations at Yachtman’s Steakhouse. We were seated and received a personalized menu which said Happy Anniversary. Our meal was one of the best steaks we had our entire stay. When it was time for dessert we got a surprise anniversary treat.  Our waiter also presented us with our own personalized menu to take home. Our next morning we slept in (yes parents-uninterrupted sleep….it was magical!). I sat on the patio enjoying the late morning hustle and bustle while quietly drinking my cup of coffee. We meandered over to the Magic Kingdom where we met Anna and Elsa. Personally I believe Anna had a crush on my husband as all the pictures show her talking with him and ignoring me. She was quite infatuated meeting a couple of “love experts.”This was the night of our much anticipated Tomorrowland Dessert Party.  We had special seating for the Wishes fireworks and castle show with unlimited desserts! What could be better?  It did not disappoint. We filled our plates with desserts and sat down to enjoy the show.  At this point we were full and happy; enjoying the extra magic hours and hitting up some additional rides. As we got off our last ride we noticed a fog had rolled in leaving the castle looking eerily cool.  There is a special magic that happens as you stroll hand in hand with the one you love late at night down Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. The day before our anniversary we planned a day of relaxation at the Senses Spa in the Grand Floridian. If you have the time and budget for it we both highly recommend this experience! My husband and I each got separate massages. Mine was a 50 minute massage where my husband’s was an 80 minute massage. I wanted a manicure with Mickey designs so I compromised by shortening my massage time. It was an experience from start to finish.  We were both incredibly relaxed afterwards and I had cute nails to make me happy the rest of the trip.On the day of our anniversary I surprised my husband in the morning. I was unsure of how he would take the surprise as it required him to wear a matching personalized Disney shirt.  When and where else can you get away with that? My shirt said “His Princess of 10 Years” and “My Hubby” with an arrow pointing to my husband. My husband’s was the same but with “Prince” and “Wife.”  He was excited to wear it when I showed it to him! As we arrived at the Magic Kingdom, I revealed another surprise. I used a company that creates “something magical” for your special celebration.  I discussed with the company owner beforehand that I would like the surprise to be for both of us. So all I knew at this point was our meeting time and location. We found a note instructing us what to do and we were sent on a scavenger hunt through the Magic Kingdom. I honestly felt like a bit of a celebrity as we went from place to place. People kept wishing us Happy Anniversary and commenting on our awesome shirts. (All right, my second guessing was gone.  wd030wdw2014233111762220  These shirts were a hit!).  We met with a lot of characters this day and the pictures were great! Characters made our celebration extra special by posing as they clapped their hands excitedly. Goofy covered his eyes while we kissed. My favorite was with Mickey where we turned around so our backs were showing. After heading for a wardrobe change we went to our dinner reservation in Epcot at Monsieur Paul in France. We had a window seat and while enjoying some delicious food, we were able to view the Illuminations fireworks.  It was a very relaxing and a very adult atmosphere. The perfect anniversary dinner!Over the rest of the week we took advantage of a few other opportunities. On another evening I planned a late dinner at Animal Kingdom’s Yak and Yeti. The restaurant was great and being one of the last people in the park was magical. We leisurely strolled out of Animal Kingdom taking wd019wdw2014233111831750pictures with no one around. In case you were wondering what transportation is like after the park is closed, you need not worry!  Disney has a line of buses that cast members organize. The cast member asks you your destination (provided you are staying on Disney property) and they assign you and a couple of other families to a bus. Have you ever seen the bus labeled VIP or perhaps ANNA and wondered who was on there? Well, people like us. Our bus was labeled both at one point!Would I recommend celebrating a romantic adult vacation at Disney? Absolutely! Disney had everything for us. From characters congratulating us, to special photopass pictures, to special recognition at every dinner we went to. We could make our days as relaxed as we wanted.  We spent many days sleeping in which is something that hadn’t happened in 7 years! Some nights we would stroll the Boardwalk stopping at the bakery for a special treat.  Other nights we would cool off and relax in the pool. It was fun, relaxing and made us remember what it was like to focus only on each other. Something as full time, busy, working parents is easy to forget! Should you consider Disney for your adult only vacation? ABSOLUTELY!!! We would do it again without hesitation.Learn more about our Blogger, Amy
