My Relaxing Day at Castaway Cay
Tiffini Hensley5/28/20I recently sailed on the Disney Dream with many fellow Wishes Agents and friends for a 4-night Bahamian sailing. During this vacation there is one day that sets itself apart from the rest, which was our day at Castaway Cay.Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. This fan favorite is a stop on most Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries. The island has many different offerings, allowing guests to either have an active or relaxing day at the beach. On past visits, I’ve chosen the more active approach; riding bicycles along the trails, snorkeling and feeding stingrays in the lagoon or kayaking in the harbor. For this visit, however, we were invited to share our agency owner’s cabana for the day. There are three types of cabanas available on Castaway Cay: The Cabanas at Serenity Bay (the adults only beach), the Grand Cabana at the Family Beach and the Cabanas at the Family Beach. We spent our day at Cabana 5 on the Family Beach. The cabanas come with many amenities for their hefty price tag. Here is a list of some of the included amenities:
- Bottled water and cans of soda
- Assorted snacks
- Magazines to read
- Towels
- Sunblock
- Snorkel gear, tubes and floats for use during the day
- Personal cabana attendant available to help with any beverage or food orders
Additionally, the cabanas are spacious and very well appointed, with areas to lounge both in and outside. Inside the open-air cabana there is a sofa and chairs, along with a changing area and radio access. Outside there are two chaise loungers and a cozy hammock, along with a freshwater shower to rinse off after spending time in the sand and water at the private beach. That’s right, the cabanas have access to their own stretch of beach (with lounge chairs and umbrellas) to relax and play on!If splurging for a cabana on Castaway Cay is on your travel bucket list, you will want to be prepared for not only the price tag (prices start above $500 for the cabanas at the family beach) but also the popularity of the cabanas. The cabanas will often sell out before the booking window opens for most cruisers. The best way to boost your chances at reserving a cabana on Castaway Cay is to book a concierge category stateroom, since those guests have the opportunity to reserve a cabana before any of the other guests sailing.Although renting a cabana may not be in my plans for my next cruise, I can honestly say that my day in Cabana 5 on Castaway Cay was practically perfect in every way!If you’d like to see additional pictures and videos from my travels aboard the Disney Dream, please check out my Facebook page, www.facebook.com/thensley.wft or my Instagram page @tiffiniwishesfamilytravel.
