Our Getaway to Montego Bay
Juli Russ11.14.19As much as I love going on vacation with my whole family, the trips I get to take with just my husband are amazing. We thought a pre-holiday getaway would be a fantastic way to destress, relax, and prepare for the upcoming holiday frenzy. We chose beautiful, warm Montego Bay as our destination to escape cold, crazy Michigan.We wanted to get to our resort, Sandals Royal Caribbean, as quickly as possible so we purchased tickets to Club Mobay at the Montego Bay Airport. Upon arrival we were greeted at the bottom of the arrival ramp by a Club Mobay hostess holding a sign with our name. She led us to a special Club Mobay line through immigration and customs and then to the Club MoBay Lounge. We enjoyed complimentary rum punch, snacks and Wi-Fi while we waited for our transportation to the resort. Sandals also has a lovely lounge which we stopped into before our shuttle left for the resort.
The shuttle ride from the airport to Sandals Royal Caribbean was very quick, under 10 minutes. It was nice to be at the resort so quickly. We were immediately greeted by the friendly Sandals staff who seated us in the gorgeous lobby area, delivered a glass of champagne and completed our check in process. As soon as we completed our check-in, we were given a tour of the resort and taken to the dining reservation desk to make reservations for Le Jardiniere and Royal Thai, which are the restaurants that require advanced reservations. After we had the basics covered, we were escorted to our room with our luggage and left to enjoy the rest of our day.Sandals Royal Caribbean is a gorgeous resort with many pools and jacuzzies to choose from depending on your mood. The main pool with the swim up bar is very fun with many people having a good time. The other pools are a little more laid back. Our favorite pool was on the private island which is a minute boat ride from the mainland. The beach is segmented which provided options as well, the main beach had many activities throughout the day while the other beaches were more subdued. The island has several beach areas as well, including a clothing optional beach.At Sandals Royal Caribbean you can enjoy the ultimate in a luxury vacation, Over the Water Bungalows. The bungalows have a private boat that delivers guests from the mainland, Butler Service, and all the amenities to have a luxurious, private vacation. Each bungalow has a soaking tub on the deck, a glass floor that lights up at night and a bar stocked with premium liquor. You could spend your entire vacation with your sweetheart in a bungalow and have an amazing time.
A great perk of visiting one of the Sandals resorts in Montego Bay is that you can enjoy all three of the Sandals properties. A shuttle picks guests up from each resort on the hour and delivers to the other resorts. We took a day to explore and enjoy all the amenities Sandals Inn and Sandals Montego Bay have to offer. Sandals Inn is a lovely, quiet resort while Sandals Montego Bay is an updated, vibrant, exciting resort. The night we visited Sandals Montego Bay was their weekly Beach Party, one of a variety of nightly activities at the resorts. A buffet dinner was set up on the beach followed by a dance party. Each night the resorts have an event to entertain their guests. We enjoyed Jamaica night where we learned about Jamaican culture, and had a ball watching the steel drum band.
To say this was a relaxing getaway is an understatement. We woke up on our own time, grabbed a cup of coffee and sat on the beach. At some point we wandered to the buffet for breakfast with a mimosa. It was refreshing to make plans for the day as we went along, not over scheduled like some vacations. We would sit on the beach or lay by the pool, cocktail in hand. The staff at Sandals Royal Caribbean was fabulous, we loved getting to know them. My husband and I had such a wonderful time that we booked another trip to Sandals Royal Caribbean next December.
