Port Orleans French Quarter

Juli RussNovember 15, 2016jr01Walking into Port Orleans French Quarter felt just like walking through New Orleans. This moderate resort at Walt Disney World is now one of our favorite resorts and we will definitely stay here again. The Crescent City theme is seen throughout the resort in the Magnolia trees, over grown vines and cobblestone streets. The registration area, which is located in the Port Orleans Mint, is bright and bustling with very helpful Cast Members. While mom and dad wait to check in, the kids can watch Disney movies in child sized chairs. There is a gift shop, Jackson Square, in the The Mint, as well as the food court, Sassagoula Float Works and Scat Cat’s Club where you can hear jazz music Wednesday jr04through Saturday nights. There are seven buildings located along the Sassagoula River. Our room was in Building 7 with a beautiful view of the river. We were a 5 minute walk to Sassagoula Float Works, Bus Stop and pool. The room was furnished with two queen beds, a flat screen TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron, hair dyer, in room safe, and a table with two chairs. The room was lovely and comfortable, plenty of room for our family of four. The rooms do not have individual balconies but the wrought iron walk way offered a nice view of the river and gave the feeling of a balcony.jr03There is one pool at Port Orleans French Quarter, Doubloon Pool, located behind The Mint. Doubloon Pool is a large pool with a water slide that looks like a sea serpent. Recently an aquatic play area was added for little ones to enjoy. My son enjoyed playing in the aquatic play area as well as swimming and going down the water slide in the Doubloon Pool.
Port Orleans French Quarter offers dining in the Sassagoula Float Works food court which is decorated like a building housing Mardi Gras Floats. The sculptures throughout the dining area are designed by Blaine Kern Studios in New Orleans, a Mardi Gras float designer since the mid-70s. The food court carries a variety of items ranging from burgers and pizza to jambalaya and ribs. My absolute favorite are the beignets which are made fresh to order.Beignets When not at one of the Disney parks, there are many recreational activities for you to enjoy from pool games and an arcade to fishing excursions and boat rentals. A horse drawn carriage ride is a lovely way to take in the beauty of the resort in the evening. A water taxi is available for a beautiful ride to Disney Springs where you can disembark for shopping and dining or ride back to Port Orleans French Quarter. The Disney Bus System will transport guests to all of the parks, water parks and Disney Springs. The wait for buses is around 20 minutes, sometimes more during non-peak times. Port Orleans French Quarter shares a bus with Port Orleans Riverside, except during very busy times. Travel time to the parks may be a bit longer during the non-peak times due to picking up Riverside guests as well. Port Orleans French Quarter is a wonderful resort and has a very intimate feel. You will love the combination of the Mardi Gras flair and charm of the French Quarter. This resort has become a favorite of our family, we are looking forward to many more visits.
