"Roughing" it at Disney's Fort Wilderness Cabins

Corrie Krpejs6.25.19There are so many choices when it comes to picking the best resort for you and your family at Walt Disney World. It can be quite overwhelming at times! We have been wanting to try the cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and were thrilled that we were able to stay there during our last family vacation. This checked off the most important things on our list – privacy and extra space.f-26-20-12924736_B6t1mykn_IMG_3385Cabins – We put a request in for the 2800 loop, which is the loop that is closest to the front of the resort, has a bus stop at the front of the loop, and was also within walking distance to a quiet pool. We did end up getting that request – remember that requests are not guaranteed. The cabins offer a small parking spot that perfectly fit our small SUV. Each cabin has a very large deck with a picnic table and a small charcoal grill.Once inside you have a small dining room table and kitchen. The kitchen featured a full-size refrigerator, microwave with convection oven, cook-top stove, coffee maker, and dishwasher. They also provide you with most cooking utensils and dishes. A small hallway leads you to the bathroom that features one sink, toilet, and tub/shower combo. It did have lots of counter space for all our things.f-26-15-12924736_BHx2ejye_IMG_3553Past the bathroom was the main bedroom. This had a door that lead to the porch, queen bed, bunk beds, flat-screen television, closet, dresser, and a small vanity area. This area was perfect because it gave us another spot to get ready in the morning. We actually decided to take the sofa bed and give the kids the bedroom. That way we could get up in the mornings and enjoy our coffee. This ended up being a great decision! Now, one decision that I would have changed is to rent a golf cart. The pools and dining areas do not have spaces to park. You will need to take the internal bus system. It ran quite frequently, but a golf cart definitely would have saved us some time. Plus, it would have been lots of fun! Over July 4th, there is even a parade where everyone decorates their carts.f-26-14-12924736_QdynR9RM_blog1Pools – The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool is the main pool at Fort Wilderness, featuring a 67-foot-long corkscrew slide, whirlpool, and a separate area for little ones to play. There is plenty of seating, and the Meadows Snack Bar, which is a quick-service location with salads, sandwiches, snacks, and frozen treats. Also, check out the Chuck Wagon! It is a food truck that looks like an old-fashioned RV and serves sandwiches, cheeseburgers, cotton candy, and s’mores kits!Dining – One of the best parts of staying at Fort Wilderness is all the dining options! Featuring Trail’s End Restaurant and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. Don’t have reservations for Trails End? Stop at P & J’s Southern Takeout. Order and take back to your cabin. Enjoy sitting outside at your picnic table.f-26-19-12924736_g8Vq0uwx_IMG_3363Overall, we had a fabulous experience. There is so much to here that you wouldn’t even need to leave Fort Wilderness. Staying at the cabins made our quick trip to Florida seem much more relaxing. If you are interested in more information about the cabins or camping at Fort Wilderness: corrie@wishesfamilytravel.comCorrie Krpejs – Wishes Family Travel336-682-8538
