Sailing on Virgin Voyages in a Rockstar Suite

How does it sound to relax on your balcony, gently swaying in your hammock while enjoying a gorgeous ocean sunset and listening to the ocean waves? Does it sound utterly delightful, or perhaps perfectly wonderful?
From the moment you enter the Virgin Voyages terminal, you start to realize that this is going to be different from other cruises. If you have splurged for a Rockstar or Mega Rockstar cabin, you will be escorted to a separate waiting area where you will have refreshments and snacks while you wait to board. If you have time while you wait, see if you can connect to the ship Wi-Fi. Here you can start trying to make any fitness class reservations, show reservations, or other class reservations; essentially, you can reserve anything that you couldn’t book before your cruise. The Rockstar experience only starts here, however- an entire world of special perks and lifelong memories await you onboard.
A huge perk of being a Rockstar is that you’re the first group on the ship and escorted to a bar/lounge with Rockstar Agents to help you with any reservations that you weren’t able to obtain. Plus, there’s complimentary champagne waiting for you as well! I hope you’re taking notes, because there’s so much more to the Rockstar experience.
Perhaps the foodie in you would enjoy dining at all 6 sit-down restaurants with unique and delicious food. Carnivores and vegetarians will be equally delighted at the unique and fabulous options available! How about enjoying a ridiculous 80’s VHS fitness class complete with spandex, neon and shake weights? If that’s not your speed, you could always join an oceanside bungee class to work off those extra bellinis from brunch!
Your Rockstar room will have its own level of amazing, depending on the cabin you selected. We stayed in a Brilliant suite and had so much space in our room, an incredible shower area and gorgeous balcony. There are some extra fun perks like a record player, stocked bar, and complimentary room service, too. Surprisingly, one of the things I loved the most during my stay was having access to our Rockstar agent, both in person and by chat on the app.
If we had any questions, we could just send our agent a message and we would have a response shortly after. We were having a problem with our record player working the first day and he stopped in and fixed it for us shortly after we sent a message. It was such a luxury having one go-to person to answer any question and provide for any need!
The perks didn’t end there. When we weren’t bothering our Rockstar agent, we LOVED the Rockstar-exclusive Richard’s Rooftop. It was a nice, quiet area to hang out in, with just about everything you could need, and it didn’t hurt to have a nightly champagne reception there as well!
Don’t get me wrong – as much as I enjoyed all the Rockstar perks, Virgin Voyages has plenty to offer without having to pay for the upgrade. All the food, basic beverages (soda, tea, coffee), Wi-Fi, tips, and almost all classes are included in the price of your cruise! So, while it may look a little more cost-wise, what you are getting more than makes up for it; there is no nickel and diming. Plus, a big draw to Virgin Voyages is its incredible food culture that is available to everyone onboard and far outshines the competition.
There was not a single restaurant I tried that I did not like, and some of those I still dream about. The best part? No buffet! I absolutely despise the buffets of other cruise lines where it is wall to wall people and only the luckiest among us can find a place to sit. Here, they have the galley; a food hall-esque dining area with many options (including a 24-hour American diner!) There are servers waiting to take your order and bring your food to you, and you’re free to order from as many kiosks as you’d like. As an example, the first day I had a veggie roll, taco, and noodle bowl; and they were all delicious!
After dinner, you may be itching for some good entertainment. Luckily for you, you’re on a Virgin Voyages ship. From Broadway-trained dancers to folk bands, it seems that every corner of the ship has something to keep you entertained while you wait for your Brussels Sprouts Arrabiata to digest. There is even a whole arcade area and entertainment area for the kid in all of us, and if the snack stand is open near there, you can often find some cake pops, popcorn or warm pretzels – included in the cost of your trip!
On Virgin Voyages you can choose to have the kind of cruise you want, and make your perfect balance of relaxation, daring, and fun! My husband and I cruised for a romantic adult only vacation, but this is an amazing opportunity for a group getaway, bachelor/bachelorette party, girls weekend, or any celebration-big or small.
