Seeking sushi? Kona Café is a must-include Disney dining stop

What’s for dinner? Is that a familiar refrain in your house? Even when we are on vacation, my children almost always wonder what we will be eating for our next meal! Thankfully, when our vacation is at Walt Disney World Resort, we typically have at least one meal reserved so the answer is easy. And, with a world of flavors available, we never have to eat the same things twice (unless we just want to.)

My family enjoys many types of foods, and we were excited to try Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Kona brings together American food with an Asian flare. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it was dinner that we opted to try.

Kona Café is located to the left of the entrance from the monorail level at the resort. Kona Island, where you can grab coffee and to-go items, is just before the actual restaurant. The café is open and vibrant, and I was concerned it would be a noisy place to eat, but it wasn’t.

Kona Café is known for Tonga Toast during breakfast, and for its sushi during dinner. Sushi is one of my favorite foods, and Kona Café did not disappoint! My husband, oldest son, and I all ordered different plates of sushi and nagiri so we could sample each other’s meals. My youngest son is a very picky eater, and I was pleased to find kid-friendly offerings like mac-and-cheese and cheeseburgers available. If you have a more adventurous eater, there is a kid’s sushi, too.

Kona Café also has inventive desserts. At the time of our visit, there was a coffee mousse, served in a coffee mug and complete with “foam” swirls, cream, and a coffee bean on top. There was also chocolate soufflé and a Moana-themed dessert. For younger children, there is a make-your-own sundae. The ice cream toppings are brought out in individual cups, and include chocolate sauce and Mickey sprinkles. Be sure to check the menu for the most up-to-date offerings.

I’d love to discuss the various dining options available as we plan your next Walt Disney World vacation. Please reach out to me via email or by phone at 828.289.7658. For travel-related tips and information, follow me on Facebook and Instagram!
