Six Things You Need to Know About Sunrise Yoga at Magic Kingdom

5/19 | Caitlin White, Concierge Agent

I participated in the first ever Sunrise Yoga at Walt Disney World as part of the Princess Half Marathon weekend. Considering signing up for a Sunrise Yoga session yourself? Here are six things you need to know!

  1. Registration happens early- like months before. Be sure to sign up when registration opens if you are interested because it does sell out.

  1. runDisney provides a yoga mat, carrying bag, and water bottle for every participant.  However, the yoga mats are very thin and the concrete is very hard which can make for an uncomfortable combination. If I did it again, I would bring a travel yoga mat with me for some extra padding.

  1. It starts super early! Check-in started at 4 am at the Ticket and Transportation Center. By 3:45 am there was already a substantial line. Like all runDisney events, this is very well organized. You’ll check-in by showing your expo pass and photo ID, then take the ferry to Magic Kingdom. There is lots of waiting in line but when it is finally time, groups of about 50 are escorted down Main Street to the Hub. The Yoga class started around 5:30 am.

  1. There are lots of great spots! Yoga mats are arranged all around the Hub and you’ll be lead to an area to pick your spot. If you want to be able to see the instructor, be sure you have a clear view of the castle stage. I loved my spot with a direct view of the Partners statue but I couldn’t see the instructor at all. If you are comfortable with yoga, that isn’t a problem since you can still hear the instructor from anywhere in the Hub.

  1. Don’t be intimidated - the Yoga class is perfect for beginners. The is a very gentle, stretching based class. There are not many strength based moves or any advanced positions. You are also free to personalize the experience and move however feels best for you.

  1. Immerse yourself in the magic - and there is a lot of it! For Princess weekend there were appearances by Princesses, Fairy Godmother, and Tinkerbell. There is a fantastic atmosphere and something so beautiful about having the opportunity to do yoga right in front of Cinderella Castle.
