The Low Down on Rose & Crown

Rose and Crown Dining Room is a self-proclaimed “family-friendly British pub”.  Located on the waterfront in Epcot’s World Showcase in the United Kingdom, you will be transported to another land filled with amazing food and drink, great service and fun accents!

My friend and I secured our reservation as soon as Candlelight Processional Dining Packages were released for the Christmas season. This special package is available at many restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Your meal will include an appetizer, entrée, dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage. For the Candlelight Processional performance, you will receive a ticket for preferred seating that evening.

Upon entering Rose and Crown, take in the beauty of the woodwork, fireplaces, the intimacy and the attention to detail – the heart-shaped scroll work on the ceiling to the glass etchings, the antique décor to the framed posters and news articles. There is even a pianist for entertainment. 

Rose and Crown offers an extensive list of traditional British cocktails, whisky, ales, lagers, stouts and wine.  There is definitely something for everyone!  For our appetizers, my friend and I chose the United Kingdom Cheese Platter and the Scotch Egg.  Oh My Goodness! We could have just stopped here!

We enjoyed each of the cheeses on the platter and really had a hard time choosing a favorite.
The orange cheese on the left is a Cotswold Double Gloucester garnished with piccalilli. This had the strongest flavor.  The center white cheese is an Irish cheddar with an onion jam. It was a dry cheese, but the sweet red onion jam made for a nice pairing.  The marbled black cheese on the right was probably my favorite! This is a salty Irish porter with a tart currant glaze, Craisins and almonds.

The Scotch Egg was absolutely wonderful!  I loved this hard-boiled egg wrapped in a mild sausage with just a touch of the mustard sauce.

There are many famous British dishes at Rose and Crown, like Bangers and Mash or the Corned Beef and Cabbage. My friend and I chose the fish and chips and the Shepherd’s Pie. While we have had these dishes before at other locations and knew what to expect, each dish exceeded our expectations on presentation, texture and flavor.  The fish was light, flaky and moist while the beer-batter was flavorful and crunchy.  We did not leave one chip behind because they were perfectly fried and salty!

I have had Shepherd’s Pie at a few different restaurants and I can honestly say that Rose and Crown’s version is my favorite!  The mashed potato topping was perfectly creamy with a flawless toasted top.  The meat, gravy and vegetables were so very flavorful. While some may feel that the portion size is too small, I will respectfully disagree.  Shepherd’s Pie is such a hearty dish - combine this with the appetizer and dessert (yet to come!) and I was more than satisfied!

And now for dessert!  We chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the English Trifle (hold the meat… Friends reference!).  My friend and I both agreed that the trifle was very underwhelming, and we ended up leaving most of this behind.  The Sticky Toffee Pudding, however, we absolutely loved and cleaned this plate!  A warm pudding cake is served with a vanilla custard and a hot butter-rum sauce. The mix of flavors and textures was sublime, and I would encourage everyone to save room for this special treat!

Rose and Crown Dining Room is currently 1 table service credit on the Disney Dining Plan and it is highly recommended to make reservations as early as possible.  Indoor and outdoor seating is available and if you make your reservation for a time close to the evening entertainment (currently Epcot Forever), you are in for a treat if you can secure a table near the water to watch the fireworks.

Due to the pub-style accommodations, Rose and Crown can get a little loud. But go into your experience knowing that everyone is enjoying the company and chatter of their loved ones while savoring a really great meal.
