The new mobile ordering process at Walt Disney World

There have been a lot of changes at Walt Disney World in Florida this year, and mobile ordering is one of them. It has actually been available at a few restaurants pre-Covid, but it is now almost everywhere. During my recent visit, I tried it out and was overall pleased at the simplicity of the process. In my opinion, this is one change that can stick around when and if we ever go back to normal.

My first experience with mobile ordering was at my resort, Pop Century. The first thing we did was go to the My Disney Experience app and pull up the menu (3 lines on the bottom right). Next, click on the mobile food order and create a new order. You are then able to select an arrival window where your food will be hot and fresh when you pick it up. The app will also show the progress of your order as it is being prepared. There is an extensive list of restaurants that have this feature available, and it prevents long wait times or having to just hang around the restaurant. Disney really is doing a good job trying to make our lives as easy as possible during such a trying time.

The only hiccup we found was sometimes you are not able to customize your condiments. We ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich and there isn’t anywhere to choose exactly what you want on it. It comes dressed as stated on the menu and there isn’t a way to change those options. While this isn’t a huge problem, especially for most adults, it did seem to irritate my teenager. However, what doesn’t irritate a teenager, right?

Our next mobile ordering was at Pinocchio Village Haus in the Magic Kingdom. The ordering in the park is so convenient. As we were nearing the front of the line of "it’s a small world", I went on the app and placed our order. The timing couldn’t have been better. As soon as we stepped off the ride and made our way around the corner to Pinocchio’s, our order was ready.

I do sometimes miss the old ways of ordering, but I am not sure if we will ever be back there again. I am trying to embrace all the changes and just be thankful that Disney World is open to enjoy. I will take it any way I can. I can honestly say that they are doing the absolute best they can in an unprecedented time.
