Traveling with Teens
By: Corrie KrpejsOctober 12, 2017We’ve visited Orlando with babies, toddlers, tweens, and now finally…. Teenagers! Yes, it’s a whole new experience but one that ended up being a lot of fun. Here are some great tips for when you are traveling with teenagers.
Allow them to help with the planning process
Whether it’s purchasing a book on Universal Orlando Resort, checking out online videos, or going through brochures, your kids will have a blast helping you plan. Have them also go online and look at dining menus. Most likely now that they are older they are a little bit more adventurous when it comes to food. Universal Orlando Resort has lots to offer in the Parks and at CityWalk. Chances are they are also more interested in thrill rides- have them make a list of their “must-dos”. I always encourage families to plan together! Our kids found the secret music codes for Rip Ride Rockit in one of the travel books, copied them on small pieces of paper, and kept them in their lanyards.
Choosing the right Resort
Being a family of 5, where 3 of those individuals are over 6-feet tall, we needed appropriate accommodations. For our family, Portofino Bay Resort has the largest rooms on Universal Orlando Property. We also decided that with 2 growing boys that the best option would be Club Level. This gave them a big hearty breakfast, snacks, and an endless supply of milk and cookies at night. The only thing we needed to pay for once in Orlando would be lunches at the Parks. So staying Club Level saved us a ton of money!
Schedule break time
Remember when your kids were little and they would nap? Well, teenagers need a lot of sleep and ours were quite happy to come back to the resort and relax each day. Our oldest would nap while the younger two spent their afternoons swimming and watching movies. This also gave my Husband and I some time together. Not sure that was ever possible when they were younger! Also, get some input from your kids on how many days they want to spend at the parks. Our kids specifically asked for one day at the resort. They wanted to be able to sleep in, swim, and relax. Any age is a fun age to visit Universal Orlando Resort. Plan that vacation, have fun with your teenagers, and make memories.
