Visitors with Special Mobility Needs Can Enjoy Disney Too!

Kristal MarcumJanuary 5, 2017Do you ever travel with a family member who needs assistance walking? I do on every trip. My mom has had two hip replacements and walks with a cane on a good day. Walking all over Disney parks or even a grocery store is out of the question so we rent an ECV (electronic conveyance vehicle).We use companies that Disney recommends and have always been completely satisfied. They deliver the ECV to the resort and pick it up. It is a very convenient and easy process. The companies leave the cart at Bell services so the client can pick it up at check in, no matter the time of arrival.The parks are also well equipped for dealing with the electric carts. All forms of transportation can accommodate the carts; some can even hold two at the same time. They also load the family at the same time before other guests so the group can stay together. We have met some wonderful drivers over the years of using the carts. They have always treated mom special and never rushed loading her. They made it a very nice experience for our family.Rides at Disney are also very accessible to the those with mobility issues. In most lines my mom was able to remain in her cart all the way to the entrance of the attraction. When the carts did not fit, cast members were available to assist with a wheelchair that we could use. This is only at a handful of rides and usually the wheelchair line is a short distance with not many ramps to go over. It definitely did not take away from our magical vacation at all.Disney has tried to think of everything to help everyone have a fantastic time, plus they continue to strive for improvements. My mom loves visiting Walt Disney World and appreciates all they do to help make it a pleasurable trip. If it wasn’t for the ECV and all the fabulous cast members help mom wouldn’t be able to make the trip with us.
