Walt Disney World’s 50th Celebration

I was lucky enough to be in Magic Kingdom for the kick-off of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. It all began on October 1, 2021 and my day started at 5AM. I traveled to Disney with my fellow travel agents and owner of Wishes Family Travel. We were all equally excited to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. We arrived at the front gates before the sun had risen and immediately sprinted to Starbucks for coffee. We needed some energy and caffeine to get the festivities started.

There was such an energy walking down Main Street USA, that I could actually feel it. The castle was beautifully decorated to showcase the new 50th emblem. There were special bronze statues placed throughout all the parks. There was even special food adorned with the same emblem as the castle. We were able to go on a kind of scavenger hunt to find all the little touches that Disney had added for the celebration. It was as much fun as the actual attractions.

Now, the reason to rise with the chickens on this day was for the merchandise. It was an absolute madhouse in all the stores on Main Street. First of all, you had to enter a virtual queue to even have a chance at the new souvenirs. We did this as soon as we arrived, but unfortunately I still did not get the backpack I wanted. I am actually still on the lookout for that coveted Loungefly. Wish me luck getting it in the future! The day was still as magical as ever. It was filled with rides, cavalcades with my favorite Disney characters, and plenty of pictures with friends.

The celebration is lasting for 18 months, and will definitely be an awesome time to visit. Believe it or not, the wait for the attractions were minimal. The longest we waited for any ride was around 30 minutes.  So, don’t let that deter you from visiting. Even with all the people gathered for launching day, we were able to enjoy a ton of food, snacks, rides and shows. On a regular day, Walt Disney World is the most magical place on Earth, but the 50th Anniversary events make it even better, if that is possible.
