Yo ho ho and a Monte Cristo… Sandwich

Tiffini HensleySeptember 1, 2016imageSo you’ve ridden Pirates of the Caribbean 10,000 times……at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, but do you consider yourself a true Pirates of the Caribbean fan?  If so, did you know that nestled in New Orleans Square in Disneyland Park, the Blue Bayou Restaurant offers moonlit views (day and night) of the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?!Although you enter the Blue Bayou Restaurant from the bustling New Orleans Square, you immediately relax as you step into the dining area under a “moonlit” sky, complete with fireflies.  Even the waiting area is a cool comfort away from the crowds of the park, with ample seating while you wait for your table.imageThe cuisine is Cajun, and their specialty is the Monte Cristo sandwich, although their gumbo is also phenomenal.  For both kids and grown-ups alike, be sure to try the Mint Julep, Disneyland’s non-alcoholic take on the classic cocktail .  At both lunch and dinner, the bread service provided is a sourdough roll, as well as a sweet potato biscuit.  The sourdough is not to be missed!I mentioned before that the Monte Cristo sandwich is the house specialty, but it is also a work of art!  Piled high are turkey, ham and Swiss cheese. Then the entire sandwich is dipped in egg, and fried to golden perfection.  A skewer of fruit adds some beautiful color to the plate. Powdered sugar is then sprinkled on top of this sandwich masterpiece. If that’s not delicious enough, the meal comes with a trio of sauces for your dipping pleasure.  The meal almost looks too good to eat!  This delectable sandwich is unfortunately only offered at lunch. However, have no fear, because the dinner offerings at the Blue Bayou are equally as phenomenal.imageA couple dinner dishes to point out are the Surf and Turf combo (my favorite) and the rack of lamb (my husband’s favorite). The Surf and Turf includes a delicious lobster tail and filet, completed with the signature Blue Bayou au gratin potatoes, while the lamb comes herb crusted with rosemary au jus and mashed potatoes.  My husband said the au jus paired very well with the lamb.Next time you find yourself looking for a unique dining experience while at Disneyland, be sure to make a reservation at the Blue Bayou Restaurant.  I’ll bet “me booty” you’ll have a delicious meal and a great time!  If you’d like additional information about the Blue Bayou Restaurant, or to start planning your magical vacation to any Disney Destination, please contact me at Tiffini@wishesfamilytravel.com or visit my FaceBook page at www.facebook.com/thensley.wft
