Growing up, I vividly remember my parents waking me and my siblings in the middle of the night—bags packed—with no clue where we were headed. The excitement would build until we finally pulled up to “Mickey’s Boat” (as little me called it), “Mickey’s House,” a beautiful sandy beach, or the twists and turns of a brand-new theme park. Sometimes, my family would take a five- to eight-hour road trip just to have lunch, shop, and then turn right back around. To say I got my love for food and travel from them is an understatement! Looking back at old photo albums, I can still picture myself at five years old, capturing those moments in instant snapshots—a testament to the saying: "Collect memories, not things."
Now, I carry on this tradition with my three children—waking them at 4 a.m. just to see their sleepy faces light up when we whisper, “Wanna go on a vacation?” Those moments of surprise and joy are the best gifts I can give them.
