A Magical Ride in the Sky
Corrie Krpejs3/4/20Another state-of-the-art transportation system has been added to the Walt Disney World Resort. It’s an aerial cable car system called Disney’s Skyliner. It opened on September 29, 2019, and connects Disney’s Epcot and Hollywood Studios to four Disney hotels – Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, The Riviera, and Art of Animation.Since it is a newer mode of transportation for Disney guests, I thought I would answer some frequently asked questions!
- Can you take strollers, wheelchairs, or ECV’s on?
For those guests who are in wheelchairs and ECVs, you will be taken to a separate queue. There you will find a stationary gondola that you will be able to drive right onto. I did only see one wheelchair/ECV per gondola. They will also place wedges behind the wheels to prevent it from rolling around inside the cabin.Strollers absolutely can also go on! Single strollers can be rolled right onto the gondola but some double strollers might be too wide and might need to be folded up.
- Is the Skyliner air conditioned?
The gondolas are not air conditioned. They do have vents that allow for cross ventilation and reflective windows to help keep the heat out. We rode the Skyliner during the heat of the afternoon, when it was around 85 degrees. There was a good breeze blowing and yet it was starting to get a little warm in there. The temperature is something to consider during the heat of the summer.
- How many people can fit inside a gondola?
The gondolas are designed to fit 10 people. That number will be less if there are strollers, wheelchairs, or ECVs inside. During times when the crowd level was high, they do group parties together. But during the slower times it was just my husband and I riding in the gondola.
- What happens if there is bad weather?
The Skyliner operating hours could change depending on weather.
- What is the travel time between each location?
Estimated times are between 5-15 minutes but here are some typical timesCaribbean Beach Resort and Hollywood Studios: 5 minutesCaribbean Beach Resort and Riviera Resort: 3 minutesRiviera Resort and Epcot: 10 minutesCaribbean Beach Resort and Art of Animation/Pop Century: 5 minutes*Travel times can vary
- Where are the Skyliner Stations located?
Epcot Station: Located outside of the International Gateway near World ShowcaseHollywood Studios: Between the bus station and entranceCaribbean Beach Resort: The Jamaica Building is the closest building to this “main hub”. All riders will exit their gondola and transfer to reach their destination.Riviera Resort: Located next to the resort and the Aruba building at Caribbean Beach Resort. This is not a transfer station, so be sure to let a cast member know if you are disembarking.Art of Animation/Pop Century Resort: Located in the middle of the walkway that connects the two resorts.Overall, we really enjoyed the Skyliner. It offered beautiful views, a peaceful ride, and we even saw some fireworks! For more information on booking a Walt Disney World Vacation at a resort that includes a Skyliner stop, contact me for your complimentary quote.Corrie Krpejs – Wishes Family Travelcorrie@wishesfamilytravel.com
