A Makeover From A Galaxy Far Far Away...
Amy Baranek1.31.19For years little girls between the ages of 3-12 have been getting princess makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Magic Kingdom or Disney Springs. This has led to some envious tweens, teens and yes adults!Did you know adults can now get makeovers at Disney too? Now mothers and daughters can get makeovers together, or an entire family can get a themed makeover. As soon as I heard about the new makeover opportunity for adults and realized I would be attending Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party, I knew I must try this experience! My ExperienceI started by calling (407) 939-7727 to schedule my appointment. Pick the salon option to schedule your appointment. You will need to know what experience, and what location you would like to visit. (See below for more information on that!) You do not need to know what character you would like to be yet. You can schedule as early as 180 days before your vacation. This is a service I will provide at no additional cost when you book your next vacation with me! I suggest making an appointment as soon as possible to get your perfect time and location. I scheduled my appointment about 4 months in advance and my first choice wasn’t available at the time I needed. There is no deposit required, but a credit card is needed to hold your reservation. You must cancel at least 6 hours before your scheduled appointment or that credit card will be billed in full. Before my appointment, I had to decide what character I wanted to be inspired by. Did I want to feel like a princess, villain, traditional character, Marvel, or Star Wars inspired? If you follow my Facebook page, you probably know I am a big Star Wars fan. The thing that is great about this option is that you can pick ANY Disney character to inspire your look. There is no book that the stylists follow, it is all left up to your vision and their creative minds, which ensures that every look that is created is truly unique and tailored to the individual.Since most pictures I had seen was either princess or villain themed, I was a little nervous going with a Star Wars character since I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had no idea if they would be able to pull it off, but I chose Darth Maul (my favorite Sith Lord). I found a dress on Etsy, that was Darth Maul inspired which I wore to my appointment. My stylist, Kio, came out to greet me. She had me choose a nail color and we got started. Nails were first so there was time to dry and while that was going on, we chatted about Darth Maul and what I might be hoping for with the makeover. My thought was to emulate the horns of Darth Maul with my hair. Kio was absolutely amazing, trying to brain storm ideas of how to accomplish this! With a couple ideas in mind, we headed over to her station to begin. This is when I realized what an AMAZING creative genius I was working with! Kio tried several things and found dividing my hair into small pieces, braiding and wrapping it around itself made the perfect horn-like shape. This was such a tedious process, but Kio was so amazing and patient, she made sure it was perfect! After completing the horns (8 horns in total), we moved on to the remainder of the hair which she did in this amazing elaborate bun type design. Finishing off the look with some dramatic, smoky eye makeup (including false eyelashes) and lipstick, I was set to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.Things to keep in mind for your appointment:-if you are getting your nails done, it is not a manicure, simply application of color, so file your nails beforehand-makeup is eyes and lips only, you can pay an additional $25 for complete face makeup (foundation, blush, etc) otherwise, wear your own foundation-bring accessories, if you have something you would like to incorporate in your look (flowers for Rapunzel’s hair, snowflakes for Elsa, etc)-find your outfit before, I found my dress on Etsy, look online at Disney for ideas, or use your own creative mind to find clothes that inspire your look, there are NO clothing options in the salonsThis experience was amazing and I would highly recommend this for kids and adults. The Ship Shape Salon at the Beach and Yacht Club is a much more peaceful environment with the ability to truly customize a look to your needs and wants. There were two stylists working while I was there and they were so supportive of each other and helpful to the guests-it a truly magical experience. Entering Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party I had Cast Members stopping me about my hair and outfit, people humming Darth Maul’s theme song to me, and one boy dressed as Poe from the new Star Wars asking for a picture with me. It made for a really fun night with some great pictures! I would absolutely do this again! What are the OptionsThere are 3 makeover options:Storybook Style: Hairstyle only for $80 adult/ $50 child (age 4-12years)Magical Makeover: Hairstyle and Makeup (eyes and lips only) for $105 adult/ $75 childTimeless Transformation: all of the above with nails too for $120 adult/ $90 child-Timeless Transformation is the one that I had done.**Pricing and options accurate as of this blog (October 2018).10% discount for FL resident15% discount for DVC, Annual passholder, or Disney Visa holdersKeep in mind, you are not becoming your character, this is a look inspired by the character of your choice and your stylist will work with you to create your vision with amazing, creative ideas. My recommendation is to think about when and where you want to showcase your look. For example, I was heading to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and I wanted to be fresh for the party, so I looked to book either at Grand Floridian or by my resort at Yacht Club. Also, be sure you allot enough time, leave a buffer time in there in case Cast Members need more time for your transformation.
