A Private Island Visit: Barefoot Cay

In July of 2024, I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau, Bahamas. It quickly moved up in the ranks as one of my favorite resorts. Like the other Sandals properties I have had the pleasure of visiting, I enjoyed unlimited food (no extra charges for specialty dining), all drinks (no extra charges for top-shelf liquor), excellent service, a beautiful room, and for the first time ever, I visited Barefoot Cay! Barefoot Cay is Sandals Royal Bahamian’s private island experience included in your vacation package!

To get to Barefoot Cay, there is a boat that runs regularly between the resort’s mainland and the island. This roundtrip boat ride is complimentary, so you can go back and forth as much as you would like throughout your trip. Once you arrive at the island you have access to two private beaches, a bar and pool bar, beachside restaurant, pool and whirlpool. You also have access to the snorkeling equipment so you can explore the crystal blue waters. For an extra charge you can book a Red Lane Spa massage on the island.

Having not been to Barefoot Cay before I was worried seating might be limited on such a small island. I was wrong! There are numerous seating options to choose from including loungers in the shade or sun, complimentary cabanas, day beds, swings, and hammocks all available on a first come first serve basis with no reservations needed. On both days we arrived in the early morning and in the late afternoon, we had no trouble finding a seat with a great view!

Every view on the island is beautiful. I recommend exploring to see it all. It is worth it to take 15 – 20 minutes out of your day to do a little sightseeing. We enjoyed views that included just looking out to the ocean, watching cruise ships sail to the port, and from one point on the island you can see other resorts like Atlantis.

The bars and restaurants on the island are convenient too. We never waited more than 5 minutes to be seated for lunch. I highly recommend the Grouper Goujons, Chicken Quesadilla, and the Salmon & Conch Ceviche.

While I loved my entire stay at Sandals Royal Bahamian, my daily visits to Barefoot Cay were the highlight of the trip. My clients traveling to this Sandals property will receive additional information based on my personal experience on the island to help maximize their time on the island too!
