Best Travel Apps

5/31 | Carrie Fulton

Here are some must have apps to use before and during your next trip!

  1. PackPoint

This handy app:

  • Can be shared with other travelers so you can make sure no one in your travel party forgets anything.
  • Checks the weather for your destination so you won't forget a jacket or umbrella.
  • Allows you to create custom lists if you're traveling with children, running a race or anything else that would require specialty gear to bring along.

  1. Weather App

Save your destinations as a favorite so you can double check the weather ahead of time.

  • Another way to ensure you have the right weather gear with you at all times whether it's an umbrella, sunscreen or jacket.
  • Helps you keep track of inclement weather in case you need to adjust your travel schedule.
  • Prepares you for when you return home so you know if you need to wear shoes rather than sandals to clean the snow off your car at the airport.

  1. Your Airline and Hotel Apps

Have all your information at your fingertips.

  • Have your flight information, QR code for your ticket and updates with you at all times.  I recommend adding your ticket to your phone's wallet or making it be your lock screen to ensure you have it when you need it and don't hold up the line searching for it.
  • In your Settings, allow notifications prior to and during travel so that you are immediately made aware of any changes.
  • Should your flight be delayed or cancelled, you can change flights through the app faster using the app than waiting for gate agent.
  • Use your hotel app to check in, open your door and check out to avoid the front desk entirely.

  1. The MyTSA App

This is important especially for those who don't have TSA PreCheck.

  • You can check to see how long the line is currently at the airport you're flying from.
  • They also have a forecast for what you can expect the lines to be so you can schedule or plan your arrival better.
  • You don't have to have TSA PreCheck to use this app, and it requires no personal information to use!

  1. Destination Appropriate Apps

Be sure to research, download and log in to apps for your destination before you arrive.

  • This is critical for cruise lines to be able to have your ship's deck plans and daily schedule at your fingertips.
  • Definitely get this if you're visiting national parks, particularly in DC.  They are a wealth of information and history.
  • If you're heading to a major theme park, this will allow you to check wait times, menus and generally keep your schedule nearby.
