Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast: A Character Meal with a Twist

By: Caralee WirgesJune 1, 2017The first week of April 2017 a new Disney Princess character dining experience debuted and my daughter and I were there! I know what you’re thinking. Does Disney really need another princess character meal? Well, this is a princess meal with a twist. Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is not only Ariel and Rapunzel, but you also get to meet their other halves, the stately, Prince Eric and the smoldering, Flynn Rider.IMG_8124This new meal for adventurers and dreamers is located in Trattoria al Forno located on Disney’s Boardwalk. If you are staying at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn or Disney’s Beach or Yacht Club Resorts, it is a quick walk. It is also within walking distance from Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a gracious host, and just in case you forgot your princess attire, they sell Ariel and Rapunzel costumes and accessories. While waiting to be seated I overheard a very satisfied customer tell the manager that this was the best character meal he had ever experienced. That only made my anticipation and excitement grow stronger!IMG_8121My daughter and I were quickly seated and were immediately offered coffee and juice by our very attentive server. She also presented my daughter with a Travel Journal and a card with all the character’s autographs. Before we knew it she brought out a plate of pastries fit for a princess, or prince; served in none other than a frying pan! Many of the items were appropriately character themed such as a fluffy, cronut-like star pastry and a clam shell purse pastry with fruit filling. This would have been an adequate breakfast on its own, but there was more! We were soon given a choice of fresh fruit or a berry, yogurt and granola parfait. While enjoying our parfaits our server explained that Ariel was going to parade through the restaurant and everyone was welcomed to join. She demonstrated different ways to maneuver your napkin for the parade. There were the eel, the fish and the seaweed techniques. We practiced them all!IMG_8122But wait! We haven’t even gotten to the main meal. That’s right. There’s more! You order your meal off a menu and the adult offerings have an Italian flare; after all, this is an Italian restaurant. Kids can have Ariel and Flounder waffles with choice of bacon or sausage. I chose the Golden Frittata that included Prosciutto di Parma, Piquillo Pepper, Scallion, and Pecorino Romano cheese with roasted potatoes. The menu resembled that of a fine dining experience and the food was the same quality.IMG_8123We had just placed our order and the next thing you knew, Flynn Rider was at our table! After a brief hello and a quick picture, he presented my daughter with a card and explained she could write down her dream and later, Rapunzel would be around to chat about that dream. Sure enough, Rapunzel stopped by and she and my daughter chatted about dreams! Soon after, Prince Eric arrived with news that Ariel would soon be here for her Under the Sea parade and he personally invited us to attend. Just as our food arrived a familiar tune started playing, Under the Sea, and Ariel came out to gather everyone and to follow her as she paraded around the restaurant. The scene was enchanting with the lively music and the children singing and waving their napkins in the air. After our morning swim under the sea, we had a chance to enjoy our incredible meal and have a visit with Ariel. She, like all the characters, graciously signed my daughter’s autograph book, posed for several pictures and engaged in meaningful conversation. This was truly the most personable character experience we have ever had which made this encounter, above and beyond, magical! This character experience is one dining credit per person on the Disney Dining Plan. I would be honored to help plan this enchanting experience, as well as many others, for your next Disney adventure.
