Capturing Great Photographs at Disney

By: Elizabeth LollisYou’ve booked your Disney Vacation, made Dining reservations, and completed your fast pass selections. You are beginning to pack all of the bags for your family. One thing that is in your bag is usually a camera. You’ve put months into planning and do not want to forget a thing. You want to take lots of photographs to remember all of the fun times you had at Disney, right?Being a photographer, I often get asked what the best camera to take to Disney is. When I am at Disney World, I often see moms and dads carrying a large DSLR camera and reaching in their camera bag to grab a different lens, all while holding a drink, pushing a stroller, and holding another child’s hand. I have a few tips to help you on photo taking at Disney World.

1.   Carry light, carry extra batteries, and an extra SD card. I’ve taken several different cameras to Disney (DSLR, point and shoot, iPhone). I prefer small. I felt it was easy to throw in my bag with the snacks and other items we needed. If traveling with children, it’s easier to travel with one bag instead of multiples.

2.   Carry a camera you are familiar with. If you purchase a new camera to take to Disney, DO NOT wait until you are at Disney to use it. Play around with your camera weeks before you travel to get the most of your camera and the best pictures.

3.   Be Creative-Every photograph you take doesn’t have to be of your family members. Be sure to capture pictures of Disney scenery, food, and rides. You’ll want to remember all of the fun details.

4. Get in the Shot- Take Selfies. Cast members are happy to take photos for you. You may also ask the photographers with Memory Maker to capture a photography for you. You want to be able to look back at your vacation and know that you were there.

5.   Capture the moments that you’ll treasure! Fun moments, romantic moments, Disney moments.
