Contemporary Resort - Making Memories on the Monorail

By: Missy RyanMay 10, 2018Disney’s Contemporary Resort is a deluxe resort at Walt Disney World located right on the monorail loop and within walking distance of The Magic Kingdom. This resort is home to the oldest hotel at WDW and one that had been designed and planned by Walt himself.I have always passed the Contemporary wishing I could spend a week there. Staying there has been on my bucket list for several years. I never thought I would get the chance to experience this amazing resort until this past October our agency meeting was held at the Contemporary and I was lucky enough to have had a room there during our visit.Originally our room was in the Garden Wing, which is not part of the main building. Although these rooms are slightly cheaper, they are located farther from everything including transportation, main lobby, dining and the main walking path to Magic Kingdom. The distance was not something I enjoyed, especially being so far from the monorail and shuttles. Luckily the second part of the trip we were moved to the main building. What a difference!!!We were located on the 4th floor. When we walked out of our room we overlooked the wonderful and fun filled Chef Mickey’s. It was so magical to see characters walking around greeting guests as we walked through the resort to our room. I also love how close we were to the monorail. We were in line within a 3-minute walk from our room. Then, 10 minutes later, we were on our way to The Magic Kingdom with front door service, courtesy of the monorail. If Magic Kingdom was not on the agenda for the day we were able to stop at the Polynesian and transfer monorails to Epcot. Other options were walking to Magic Kingdom or using one of the several shuttles to a park of choice. Being so close to Magic Kingdom was probably the best part about our stay at the Contemporary. Although we did not have a theme park view we did have a gorgeous view of the lake, and we also had the option of visiting the observation deck where we could see the fireworks each night and had breathtaking views of the Castle and Space Mountain. I truly enjoyed seeing these views as I left for the day or returned early one evening from a park.​If being close to parks and having Chef Mickey’s located right outside our door was not enough, the dining options were endless while staying on the monorail. Located right inside the Contemporary aside from Chef Mickey’s you can also find The Wave, California Grill and Contempo Café. The dining options extend and when staying on the monorail you have easy and quick access to both the Polynesian and Grand Floridian which are homes to very popular dining experiences. Other amenities include the on-site convention center, pool, marina and child care.I enjoyed the pool area, despite many other pools at WDW that I feel are superior; The Contemporary did have the basics such as a slide, hot tub, area to order food, and a recreation area which included a pool table, ping pong and large connect four. I thought this was a nice added touch. I also like the fact that you can take a ferry and the pick up is within steps of the main building. If you wanted to dine at Wilderness Lodge or catch the Hoop Dee Doo dinner show at Fort Wilderness, then the ferry was available to bring you directly to these resorts.Overall, I felt that the Contemporary Resort was a nice resort with the largest perk of location. I would highly suggest this resort to families who like the convenience of being located so close to Magic Kingdom, Epcot and several dining experiences.
