Disney on a Budget in 2024

Let’s face it, in 2024, budgeting has become a bit of an art form. We all know it’s smart to budget for everyday things like groceries and clothes, but what about planning for that dream Disney trip? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Let me share what’s been working for me this year.

1.       Using a Travel Agent. I am not just saying that because I’m a travel agent myself. For example, I booked a February 2024 trip early, and later, my agent found a Disney dining credit offer. Since we were staying at Caribbean Beach Resort for six nights, we scored a $720 dining gift card! Travel agents are usually free and always on the lookout for savings—why not let them help you save some extra cash?

2.       Buy gift cards at a discount. Did you know you can pay for your whole Disney trip with gift cards? Or that you can transfer up to $1,000 onto one Disney gift card? I didn’t either, until I picked some up at Sam’s Club. On any given day, you can save $5-$15 depending on the amount, like getting a $500 gift card for $484.98! Those little savings add up fast. Sam’s Club, Costco, and BJ’s often offer daily discounts, and sometimes, even extra savings throughout the year!

3.       Buying souvenirs before you go. Don’t get me wrong, I have more Disney ears and Loungeflys than I know what to do with, but I score mine on DisneyStore.com to take advantage of discounts. While not everything is on sale, there are often great deals. For example, for my October trip, I snagged Halloween-themed ears, a Loungefly, and a shirt—all at 30% off! That kind of discount is hard to find in the parks.

4.       Already existing admission deals and Promotions. Florida residents and Military servicemembers already get special deals, so be sure to let your travel agent know if you qualify! Also, becoming an Annual Passholder can save you money over time—if you’re visiting more than twice a year, the discounts in the parks and nearby are totally worth it! Disney just launched their early 2025 promotions, where you can save up to $200 a night at select Disney Resort hotels with the purchase of a ticket package starting February 26th and going until June 30th.

5.       Check the Price Calendar. Some days at Disney are more affordable than others, but they might not be ideal. For example, mid to late August costs less but is super-hot and the start of hurricane season. Early to mid-February is great, but you risk snow delays. Avoid big holidays like the 4th of July, Halloween, and Christmas for both crowds and higher prices!

6.        Skip Park Hopper, Buy 1 Day Tickets. If you're spending 4+ days in the parks, skip the park hopper! You'll save $60+ per person and get to fully enjoy each park without rushing. Plus, it frees up time for a relaxing dip in the pool or a fun dining reservation at Disney Springs!

7.       Staying on Disney Property. Yes, staying at a Disney resort looks pricey, but it comes with great perks! The biggest ones? Early Park Entry, where resort guests get in 30 minutes early, and included transportation that drops you off right at the park entrance—no Transportation Center needed! Plus, there are fun extras like restaurant discounts and free mini golf. But early entry and easy transportation are the real game-changers!

8.       Bring snacks. Mickey-shaped snacks are amazing, but if you're trying to save, bringing your own snacks is the way to go! It’s budget-friendly and saves you time—no waiting in line for that popcorn bucket!

9.       Disney Springs / Resort Day. Disney Springs? Saving money? Absolutely! Depending on the season, like during the holidays, you can enjoy free activities like the Christmas Tree Stroll—find themed trees, mark them on a map, and earn a prize! Plus, Disney resorts have fun themes year-round. Hop on Disney transportation, explore, and even try my favorite challenge: ride all the transportation in 24 hours!

10.  Quick Service vs Table Service Dining. Table Service dining is fantastic, and if you can swing it, go for it! But if not, skipping a pricey prix-fixe meal can save you big. Quick Service spots offer a wider range of prices while still giving you that immersive experience. Take Woody’s Lunchbox, for example—those "Totchos" are delicious, you’re still soaking in the Toy Story vibes, and you're saving a ton compared to Round Up Rodeo’s $45 per adult and $25 per child price tag!

Disney World is pure magic, but it can get pricey! These 10 tips won’t take away any of the magic—you’ll still have an unforgettable experience.
