Disneyland’s Brick Wall
Sarah McClure6.21.20Are you a Disney history buff? Do you love the stories of Walt and the beginning of Disneyland? Do you “geek out” over little Disney tidbits?Just off of Main Street, USA is Center Street. This is where you can find lockers to rent. It’s on the right if you are walking toward Sleeping Beauty Castle. A stroll down this little street between Market House and Disney Clothiers, Ltd. will bring you to a legendary red brick wall. This odd little wall is steeped in lore and mystery! Where did it come from? Why is it tucked away and WHY are there so many different kinds of bricks?? Straight, clean-lined, long red bricks, arched, light red bricks, short and stubby bricks, bumpy, irregular bricks, shiny bricks, matte bricks all surrounding a water fountain… what gives? The “Brick Test Wall” has been in this location since opening day and Disney legend tells us that it was a wall Walt Disney used to see samples of different styles of brick and masonry that would be used around the park. In the rush and chaos of opening day, there just was not enough time, or money, to replace the wall with something uniform. So, it stayed!Next time you are strolling down Main Street, USA, peel off to Center Street and enjoy a tiny bit of Disney history!I would love to help you create a magical vacation!
