Disney’s Enchantment

In October 2021, Walt Disney World changed their Magic Kingdom Nighttime Spectacular from the beloved Happily Ever After to a new show called Enchantment. Like many other Disney fans, I was really upset about this change, as Happily Ever After holds a special place in my heart and brings out so much emotion for me. I was sad and feeling down about it, but I know that Disney aims to impress, and that their new show would be incredible.

The night Enchantment debuted I watched the live stream and must admit I was a bit disappointed. It did not immediately pull at my heart strings or make me feel as emotional as other shows like Happily Ever After have done. I was planning to head to the parks a few weeks after this, and was still eager to give it a chance, and see it in person.

We lined up for our spot for the show about 30 minutes before, and had a wonderful view of the castle. As soon as the music started playing, I had that same feeling in my heart and stomach that Disney shows usually give me: the feeling of magic, hope, anticipation, and love. The opening song “You Are the Magic” filled me with joy, and I was excited to see the rest of the show. The castle projections during this show and projections on Main Street were so stunning, and so much fun to watch. I loved listening and watching along to some of my favorite Disney movies. As far as actual fireworks go, I think the display in the sky was some of the most impressive that I have seen. Usually I am focused on the castle during these shows but during Enchantment, the sky kept catching my eye. The real moment of goosebumps came for me toward the end of the show when Tinkerbell flew off the top of the castle, and I was so glad Disney kept this as a highlight!

This new show will always be special to me it is was my 2 year old son’s first time seeing a Disney firework show. The light in his eyes, his clapping hands, and never-ending smile made me okay with the change. Change is hard for everyone - especially Disney fans that love the classics. Happily Ever After will always hold a special place in my heart, just as its predecessor Wishes did, but I am excited and open to expanding my heart for Disney’s Enchantment.
