Disney's Hilton Head Resort

Experience Disney's Hilton Head Resort

By Leslie DinunzioAug 13, 2015When thinking of a Disney vacation, the relaxing coastal Low Country doesn’t necessarily come to mind. However, Disney has a fabulous resort in South Carolina, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort (DHHIR). DHHIR is a relaxing and fun-filled destination with just a hint of Disney magic.Upon entering the Lodge, you may be greeted by Shadow, the resident mascot of the property. During your stay you may have the opportunity to learn Shadow’s story!Welcome to Hilton HeadThere are studios and one-bedrooms villas in the main building, and the majority of the villas are spread throughout the property. Buildings are slightly elevated due to sea level and most require stairs for entry.overview of Hilton Head!FullSizeRenderWhile staying at DHHIR, at the main property, there is a fabulous pool with slide, hot tub and children’s wading pool. There are daily pool games and activities for entertainment. Throughout the property there is a playground, games such as corn hole and horseshoes and a pier where you can take a guided fishing tour or dolphin watch.         There are daily activities on property from nature walks to campfires with s’mores to family bingo and movies to Kids Night In! Disney also works with some local golf courses for discounted rates.Approximately 1.25 miles from DHHIR is the beach house. At this location, there is a pristine stretch of shoreline as well as another pool with access for only Disney guests. If the open ocean isn’t your favorite, you can take a dip in the pool yet still lounge by the ocean or play on the sand!Traveling in between the two locations can be done by internal Disney shuttle. Alternatively, the island has elaborate and well-maintained biking trails. You will see families on bicycles daily. Renting bikes is a simple process right on property at Broad Creek Rentals and there are many places to park and lock up. The route between the resort and beach house is a beautiful and relaxing (and flat, aside from a pedestrian bridge) ride.Off property, Savannah is only 45 minutes away. This makes quite a fun day trip and it also houses the closest international airport for the resort. A car rental is necessary to get to the resort. Within Hilton Head, there is also much to do.Nice Pool! The Sea Pines area houses shops, restaurants, a lighthouse to tour as well as playground and trees to climb. There is mini golf on the island as well as a local ice cream stand. DHHIR will provide you with a booklet of local restaurants that offer discounts to guests as well. The resort offers grills for use to guests, don’t forget to stop at a local vendor and pick up some locally caught seafood! As one can see, a Disney trip can also be relaxing! The southern charm of this hidden gem of a location is just waiting to be explored! Contact me at Leslie@wishesfamilytravel.com about this resort!
