Don't Worry... Universal Orlando is there for you
April Kemper4.19.20I recently returned from a trip to the Universal Orlando Resort. I was there for a training experience. It was such a fantastic opportunity and I really did have a great time. However, on my first day to the parks, I had a little “accident”. I threw up on one of the rides. I was horrified and completely embarrassed.I’m 43 years old with new progressive bi-focal glasses. It took me about 2 weeks to really adjust and even now I still have moments of dizziness when walking. . It was one of those rides that your feet dangle as the track is above your head. It moves you sideways through the ride and swings you forward and backward and you are watching a screen this whole time. It is a very 3-D experience and to top it off, I only ate a little bit for lunch and no dinner and it was around 8:30 pm. I had already started feeling a bit nauseous from another ride before this one and thought, well, I don’t want to miss out, so I rode it anyway. Almost immediately, I regretted my decision, but at that point I was already on the ride. I kept telling myself, it’ll be over before I know it, then the next thing I knew, it was all over me. Not a fun or pleasant experience at all. I just wanted it to be over.Thankfully, as soon as it was over, I stood up and told the ride attendant that I got sick. He did not make me feel bad about it at all and instead just said, “it’s ok. Happens all the time” and directed me to the exit. As soon as I walked through the door, there was another ride attendant there who asked me if I was going to be sick, and I said, I already was. He said, “Oh, Ok. Here, come right through this door”. He then led me into a small room, about the size of a closet. Inside the room was a chair, a large cabinet, a sink with a mirror, paper towels, and a trash can. I immediately went to the sink to clean myself up and he went straight to the cabinet. Inside this cabinet was a ton of extra clothes. He asked what size I needed and asked if I just needed a shirt or shorts also. I said, I think just a shirt would be ok, but they didn’t have the size I needed there, so he said he would be right back. In the mean time another ride attendant brought me a bottle of water. When the first guy got back, he handed me a solid gray t-shirt and a pair of navy blue gym shorts. When he handed them to me he said, “I know you said you only needed a shirt, but I can see the back of your shorts and I think you might want these as well.” He was so nice and considerate and as I kept apologizing, he kept telling me not to worry about it. After I changed clothes, I sat down to rest for a minute and then asked him where I needed to return the clothes once I washed them. He said for me not to worry about it, that they have extra clothes on hand for this kind of situation and that I can keep them.As I left the ride, I still felt pretty horrible about the whole incident, but I also was really happy to know that Universal takes such great care of their guests. I really wish I got the names of everyone who helped me, but I was not really thinking clearly at the time. I would have been a hundred times more embarrassed if I had to walk around the parks looking for a bathroom with vomit all over myself. I was very thankful to the employees and wanted to be sure to share my story so that if it does happen to you, you can know that it really isn’t the end of the world and the people at Universal Orlando have your back. I should also mention that I went back for two more days after that incident and never got sick again. Some things to keep in mind for your next trip to an amusement park; number one, be sure you eat. Number two, be sure to pay attention to the signs and if it says that you should not ride if you are prone to motion sickness, you might want to heed that warning. And number three, be sure you drink a lot of water, dehydration can also cause a person to feel motion sickness. Also know that if you are at Universal Orlando, the employees there are super friendly and helpful. If you are interested in a free quote, please send an email to akemper@wishesfamilytravel.com.
