The Historic Warwick Hotel, Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia

Christina Szewczuk4.21.20I love Philadelphia. I have lived in and around Philly for most of my life. (There were 3 years where I lived in Baltimore, but other than that I’ve been in this area.) Living in Philadelphia was definitely a highlight of my life. I met my husband there, our first apartment was there; it just holds so many wonderful memories from childhood through present day. I would move back in a heartbeat if I had the chance. However, I now live outside the city in the suburbs with my kids and my pets and my husband. We live close enough for a day trip, but we love to stay over and make a night of it. (With or without the kids…) I have stayed in several different hotels within the city, but the Warwick stands out as my absolute favorite!f-26-20-13574176_7G6aLB7R_IMG_1140The Warwick is in a perfect location, right in the heart of the city in the Rittenhouse Square area. This area is very nice, one of the safer areas, with lots of restaurants/bars, shopping and attractions just a short walk away. It’s very easy to get a taxi or an Uber/Lyft in this area as well if you’re planning to visit other areas of the city.Built in 1926, the Warwick is on the National Registry of Historic Places! It’s a fairly small hotel with just over 300 rooms offering several different room types from standard rooms to club level rooms and suites. The building is beautiful, featuring classic, ornate architecture that you won’t find with most new-construction hotels. Inside, they have managed to keep many of the decorative original details while contrasting them with a bright white paint and modern décor. It is well decorated and despite the age of the hotel, it feels crisp and chic. (Kudos to the interior decorators!)f-26-19-13574176_xfShSJMz_IMG_5364On this most recent stay, I was there with my daughter due to a flight cancellation. This hotel is family friendly but does not have any amenities specifically for children. We stayed in a King Room on the 11th floor, which is the Signature Club floor and includes access to the Lounge. (My preferred way to stay!) When you walk into the Lounge, the Concierge at the front desk will greet you. The Lounge boasts a “continental breakfast” but it is more like a breakfast buffet. When I think “continental breakfast” I think of a tray of pastries, maybe some bagels and some coffee/tea. This goes way beyond that! They feature different foods each day but you generally get some type of scrambled eggs, breakfast meat, cereals/granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, bagels and more. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bottled water and other complimentary drinks are also available. In the evening, they host a Happy Hour from 6-8pm. This is a perfect stop to take in some city views, grab a snack and make yourself a martini before hitting the town. (And before the martinis are upwards of $10-$20 depending on your bar of choice!) There are sodas and bottled water as well as alcoholic drinks like beer, wine and even liquors-all complimentary. There is always a hot snack, this time it was mini-cheesesteaks! Other selections include assorted meats and cheeses and fruit along with some desserts, cookies and even baklava. It provides an excellent value for the added expense of staying Club Level. Even if you just have breakfast there before heading out to explore the city, you’ve saved yourself a good $25 per person!f-26-14-13574176_9KzzDHqX_IMG_5360_yPFcThe room itself is spacious by city hotel room standards. Décor is modern with clean lines and some nods to the city’s history. Upon entering the room, you will be in a small foyer area with a coatrack by the door and a full-length mirror on the wall across from the coatrack. As you continue on, the door to the bathroom is to your right. A classy brown and crème color scheme decorate this bathroom, which has amenities such as a nicely tiled shower/tub combo, a scale, well-lighted make up mirror, hair dyer, plush towels and plenty of toiletries. Along the wall in the room, you’ll see the bed, a desk with mini fridge, coffee machine, large TV, a leather chair and 4 big drawers. There is a sitting area with a comfortable chair, lamp and side table. Below you can see the headboard of the king size bed features many Philly icons like city hall, the LOVE statue, and the skyline among others. Alongside the bed, there are lights and also smaller reading lights. The plugs do not have USB ports in them so you will need to bring a charging hub or plug with you. There was a large window in our room, which provided an awesome view of Liberty Towers. I love looking at the towers at night…f-26-15-13574176_Bm4gEsvA_IMG_5362I have stayed here a few times and I have never had a bad experience. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in a nice section of town in the heart of all the action. Make a night or a weekend of it, go see an Eagles, Sixers or Flyers game and get a good taste of Philly! Check out my video below to get a visual tour of my description contained in this blog.
