Gringotts Dragon in Universal Orlando

One of my favorite things about visiting Universal Orlando is seeing the detail that went into making the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. A detail that immediately comes to mind is the dragon that sits on top of Gringotts. It’s for sure a must see. As soon as you walk into Diagon Alley this dragon immediately catches your eye! Sitting high on top Gringotts Bank, one of the main attractions, you might get a chance at seeing it breathe fire.
In the world of Harry Potter, this dragon is part of the Ukraine Ironbelly species and was used to guard several high-security vaults in Gringotts. The dragon made its first appearance in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. This dragon that sits atop of Gringotts is the one Harry, Hermione, and Ron escaped on after breaking into the Lestrange vault.
Its about to get a little warmer
The dragon breathes fire often. An easy indication before the dragon breathes out flames is the Ironbelly will growl in prep for its big performance. The growl is a guaranteed notification that flames are about to fly. The closer you are the more you feel the heat! I, myself, like to be farther back to view the fire show as a whole.
Fact: The dragon’s fire can reach temperatures of 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit. That is HOT!!!!
Another burning question!
How often does the dragon breath fire? The Ironbelly dragon excites the crowd every 10 to 15 minutes from the opening of park to closing.
Pro Tip for photos
If you want to get a stunning photo of the Dragon, stand off to the side. This way, you can capture the intensity of the fire and how far the flames extend from its mouth. The side view also allows you to see the extensive detailing put into this dragon like the broken chains around their neck!
