I love Dole Whip!
Leslie Bowman11.13.18Dole Whip is my favorite Disney snack! I admit that one of the things I love about visiting Walt Disney World is being able to enjoy a Dole Whip anytime I want. It tastes like “summer” to me. I actually stood outside in 30-degree weather at the Magic Kingdom this past January enjoying a Dole Whip! So, what is a Dole Whip? It is a non-dairy, pineapple-flavored soft serve dessert. It is typically served in a cup but can also be served as a swirl with vanilla soft serve or in a float with pineapple juice.A bit of history: The Hawaiian pineapple company, Dole Plantation, first operated as a fruit stand in 1950 and later opened to the public as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989. The company first began sponsoring the Enchanted Tiki Room in 1976 and originally served pineapple juice and pineapple spears. In the mid-80’s they began selling Dole Whip in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom and the iconic soft serve and float at Disneyland. It has since gained a cult following. You can now google “dole whip” and find a variety of recipes as well as a plethora of Etsy shops featuring Dole Whip pins, soaps, candles, clothing and jewelry. I love the tiny Dole Whip earrings! This tasty treat is available at several locations at Walt Disney World, including Aloha Isle in Adventureland at the Magic Kingdom, Tamu Tamu at Animal Kingdom and the Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. They also serve Dole Whip at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort at the Beach House. You can also find Dole Whip in Disneyland at the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland.Aloha Isle is located next to the Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland and it typically has a long line. However, mobile ordering is now available at Aloha Isle on the My Disney Experience app. This means you can pre-order your Dole Whip soft serve, Dole Whip Float or Dole Whip Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and it will be ready when you arrive! Tamu Tamu serves soft serve cups as well as Dole Whip drinks served with dark rum or coconut rum.At Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Village Resort you can order a Spikey Pineapple, which is a blend of Babancourt Pango Rhum and pineapple soft-serve. Trust me, it’s delicious! I brought in the New Year with one in hand!It is estimated that over 3 million Dole Whips are served at Walt Disney World and Disneyland each year. Isn’t it time you tried one?
