Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party: A Must-Do!
October 15, 2015Becky CriswellIf you are planning a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort in the fall, you should not miss Mickey’s Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party. This party, held on select nights in September and October, transforms Disney’s Magic Kingdom into a night of Halloween fun for the whole family. My family had the privilege of attending this special event in September 2014 and in this blog I’d like to fill you in on the fun that awaits you!The Halloween Party requires a separate ticket, and on the days of the party the Magic Kingdom closes to all guests at 7 pm, unless you have a ticket for the event. If you do have a ticket for the party, you are allowed to enter at 4pm. The park remains open until midnight for all party-goers. On the night we attended it was pouring down rain and we still had a blast! I can’t even imagine how much fun it would be with better weather. If you plan to attend the party, I recommend grabbing dinner at a quick-service location in the Magic Kingdom, so you can save most of your time for all of the incredible fun. Our family ate around 6:30pm at the delicious Pecos Bill Café, and we were finished eating just as the party was starting. Now let’s get to the good stuff. Allow me to highlight all of the fun activities you can experience at the party:
- Costumes: Costumes are not required for the party but it sure does make it fun! Get creative with your family. Wear matching costumes if you wish, or maybe you each prefer your own style. If dressing up is not your thing, it’s always fun to see everyone else in costume. We saw some great ones while we were there, but my little guy was my favorite – even though I’m probably a little biased!
- Trick-or-Treating: You heard me right! Trick-or-Treating around Disney’s Magic Kingdom, does it get much better than that!? There are several locations around the park where you and your children can load up on candy, and they are not stingy! Cast members, dressed in costume, usually dump handfuls of candy into your bag. There are a few candy “trails” located around the park where you can load up on candy from several different cast members in one spot.
- The Show: You can catch the Halloween-themed show on the stage in front of Cinderella’s Castle. Last year, the show featured your favorite (or not-so-favorite) Disney villains. This year, the show will be hosted by the crazy sister trio from Disney’s Hocus Pocus.
- The Boo-To-You Parade: There are two showings of this spooktacular parade. It’s really not scary, but fun for everyone. The second showing of the parade is typically less crowded. The parade is a great way to see all of the Disney characters in costume, as well as the headless horseman, the grave-diggers from the haunted mansion, and more!
- Hallowishes: This fireworks show is NOT to be missed. We had the pleasure of viewing this fireworks show twice (once while we were at the party, and once from the top of the Contemporary Resort after dining at The California Grill). The fireworks were truly amazing. They are timed perfectly with songs from the Disney Villains. It was probably my favorite part of the evening.
- The Rides: The rides remain open during the Halloween Party and may even be less crowded than they are during the day because most people are taking advantage of the unique party opportunities. If you are traveling with older children/adults, they may enjoy the rides with shorter lines while the little ones are trick-or-treating or meeting characters.
- The Décor: I absolutely love the Magic Kingdom during the fall. Whether you are there during the day or you have tickets to the Halloween Party, you will not be disappointed in the transformation of the park during this time of year. From the pumpkins to the beautiful autumn colors to the Fall/Halloween topiaries, it is beautiful!
