Mobile Ordering: A "How to" Guide

I’ve been going to Walt Disney World (WDW) since there were ashtrays on the tables, paper tickets for the parks and physical keys for the rooms…not those key card ones, but actual, metal keys!

As the decades have passed and technology extends its influence, I’ve loved having a Magic Band to take care of everything from the room key to paying for souvenirs.  Now WDW has rolled out Mobile Ordering for Quick Serve restaurants which, as a person who loves being productive, is a great addition especially for families with littles!

Ordering is as simple as ordering Starbucks through their app, except you use your My Disney Experience App. I (or your personal Wishes Concierge Agent) will help you set up prior to your trip!  You select the plus sign at the bottom of the screen and follow the prompts to place and pay for your order.

However, the main thing I want you to present to you is how to select your arrival window.  I learned this the hard way during a trip I took to WDW in October.

Selecting the restaurant you want to order, from as well as creating your order can happen at any point during the hours before your want to get your food.  In fact, you can prepare your order for dinner while you’re at lunch!  As your window opens, you simply hit the “I’m here” button within the app when you’re ready for them to start making your food.

For example, if I was taking pictures at the Castle, and I prepared or just decided that I wanted a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle in Frontierland,  I would place my order (if I hadn’t already) then I would select “I’m here” BEFORE I started walking over to the restaurant.

If I had been waiting until I was standing in front of the restaurant to tell them “I’m here,” I would have to wait an additional 10 or more minutes while they prepared my food.  I know 10 minutes isn’t terribly long, but when you’re traveling and REALLY want your Dole Whip, that’s an eternity!!!

The above works great when you’re in the parks, but the resorts require a whole other plan!  When ordering Mickey Waffles at Pop Century Resort, I would place my order and tell them “I’m here” about 10-15 minutes prior to starting to walking over to the Classic Hall (the main building where the food court is at Pop).  If I said I was “here” any later, I would spend my time wandering around the gift shop that’s located at the front of the food court.  This is fine for a time or two, but probably detrimental to my budget if I did this every time!

THIS is why you book with me and Wishes Family Travel.  I know BECAUSE I go, and this experience along with dozens of others help me map out your trip so you’re spending more time enjoying the parks than you are waiting for food.
