This blog took me a really long time to write. Every time I thought my list was complete another snack, memory, or special occasion would come to mind and back to the drawing board I went. But here we go... my top ten treats in Disney. Of course, this list will probably be ever changing and ever growing but I had to start somewhere!
- Mickey Bar – Let me start with a classic. This has and always will be my favorite snack at Disney. It tastes like home and eating one of these bad boys while staring at my, I mean “the,” castle just makes me happy. I am sure to grab one on every trip to Disney no matter what. (Hint: They are also available on the Disney Cruise Line! Don’t see a dessert you like on the menu? Ask for a Mickey bar!)
- Peter Pan’s Float - Not only does this treat incorporate one of my favorite characters, it is just so refreshing on a hot Florida day that it makes the top of the list. For those of you who have not had it, it is a sprite and key lime float. Peter’s feather is a piece of chocolate for an extra sweet touch. I have ordered this snack several times and it is consistently delicious. Location: Storybook Treats
- Mickey Peanut Butter Rice Crispy Treat - I was not a fan of rice crispy treats in general until I tried this delicious flavor. My favorite places to grab one are in Big Top Circus and the Confectionary in Magic Kingdom, but they are located all over the Disney property. The peanut butter and chocolate combination is my favorite in any dessert, so choosing this flavor was a no-brainer.
- Key Lime Pie on a Stick and Jack Jack’s Num Num Cookie - Both of these snacks are located at The Market in Hollywood Studios. Both very different, but taste so good! The key lime pie on a stick is a good option on a hot day as it is served frozen. It is tart so if you only have a sweetooth, this treat might not be for you. The blue, chocolate coating is sweet to mellow it out. Unlike ice cream, it will not melt in two minutes in the Florida heat. The Jack Jack Num Num Cookie will be one of the best chocolate chip cookies you ever taste in your life. I have opted to eat this cookie instead of sitting down for a meal before. It is just that good and that filling.
- Beignets - There are two places these delicacies can be located and lucky for you each coast is represented. In Disneyland, the beignets can be found at Cafe Orleans and the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square. In Disney World, they are found at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter. They never fail to be some of the best tasting sweets on any trip. They also make seasonal flavors. In the fall they had Mickey-shaped pumpkin spiced beignets as a special menu item. The resort also has Boozy Beignets at the Scat Cat Club.
- Dole Whip - yes this snack has a cult-like following, and yes, I am part of that cult. It is sweet. It is refreshing. It is dole whip. Available in several locations including the Magic Kingdom at Aloha Isle, and the Polynesian Resort at Pineapple Lanai. Want to try a Dole Whip cocktail? Head over to Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas at the Boardwalk Resort and ask for the Captain Seaside Sensation.
- Brownie Cheesecakes - For some unknown reason, whenever I visit the Starbucks in Animal Kingdom, I end up ordering a brownie cheesecake. My trip to Disney in the fall of 2020 was no different. The pumpkin cheesecake brownie specialty dessert did not disappoint and was as beautiful as it was tasty. The brownie was very rich in flavor and the light cheesecake on top balanced it out. The dessert was almost too pretty to eat... almost!
- Churros- Disney churros are the best churros. I personally love visiting Disneyland in California for this reason. The number of churro options there especially in the fall/winter is unreal. I think my favorite was the gold churro to celebrate the Pirates of the Caribbean 50th Anniversary. It was sweet with a hint of lemon! Churros are also readily available in Disney World too. My favorite spot to get them is Pecos Bills. They are often served as bite size snacks and have a holiday twist during certain times of the year.
- The Grey Stuff - I am going to be corny and tell you it is in fact delicious. Don’t believe me? Ask anyone who has been to Gaston’s Tavern or the Be Our Guest Restaurant. Hint: If you order the Master’s Cupcake the Grey Stuff is on top. Another great way to try it!
- Churro Ice Cream Sandwich - otherwise known as a perfect combination of my two favorite things. Located at Sleepy Hollow in the Magic Kingdom, this sandwich is served all day long and is the perfect balance of warm, sweet, and cool treats all combined into one mouthwatering dessert.
Not listed are the one thousand ice cream or drink recommendations I could make for you. Oh and the Tiramisu push pop in Epcot! And the rainbow cheesecake at Pop Century! See? The list could just keep going on. If you are a foodie like myself and are interested in tasting your way thru Disney on your next vacation, please contact me at Maggie@wishesfamilytravel.com.
