Do you remember reading the Sunday comics? Or, for those of us who still receive an actual newspaper, maybe you still read the Sunday comics. I still receive our local Sunday newspaper just for the coupons and store flyers! In Universal Studio’s Islands of Adventure theme park, there is an area in the park called Toon Lagoon. Once you step into this land, you will feel like you just jumped into a life-sized comic strip. From Cathy, to Family Circus, to Popeye, it’s all there to see. Make sure to ride Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barge if you enjoy a fun water ride on a hot day but don’t say I didn’t warn you if you’re the lucky one to get soaked!
During a recent stay, I tried lunch at Blondie’s, a fun sandwich shop reminiscent of the comic strip of the same name. If you’re familiar with the comic strip, the main character is Dagwood Bumstead (his wife is named Blondie) and he really likes overstuffed sandwiches! As you can probably guess, Blondie’s is a sandwich shop and is open for lunch and dinner. The menu is simple but varied, with different types of lunchmeat sandwiches along with various hot dog platters. Sandwiches come with chips or potato salad while the hotdogs come with fries. There are a few dessert items available too. This is a quick-serve restaurant, and you can use the Universal dining plan for this meal. Ordering on the Universal Studios mobile app is simple, and food will be brought right to your table. A Team Member will seat you and will also handle any questions regarding allergies, substitutions, etc.
My turkey sandwich was freshly made and definitely tasty! A cold sandwich was a nice treat after several hours in the warm weather. Blondie’s is definitely an establishment I would frequent again. I would love to help your family plan a trip to Universal Studios in Florida!
