The Big Question For Parents: Do I Need a Stroller? All you need to know…

In one word, yes. Don’t get me wrong- I long for the day that my family will all be walking on our own two feet around the park. But for anyone with young kids, you’re not there yet. Walt Disney World is hard on little feet. If you tour the parks like our family, we reach thousands of steps in a park day, making it very difficult for kids to keep up. And for that reason alone, I recommend having access to a stroller. Sure, you may have to go through a different security line. Sure, you may have to find stroller parking before getting in line for attractions. But do either of those annoyances top hearing your little ones whine, cry, and want to be carried around the parks on any given park day? Surely not. And hey, you may even be lucky enough to have a drink holder and under stroller storage to hold bags, coolers, and all the merch you must purchase.
Bring One or Rent One?
The next question I am asked is, should we rent or bring our own? I almost always lean toward renting. Unless you are driving, only doing one or two park days, and can get away with a small umbrella stroller- renting is the way to go. It’s easier to not have to fly with the stroller. When your Wishes Family Travel agent arranges your stroller rental for you, it will conveniently be at bell services at your resort upon your arrival, and you can simply leave it with bell services at the end of your stay. You will have a much higher quality of stroller (Bob, CityMini, etc.) than renting from the park each day, and it will cost you less. Not to mention, you will save yourself from the wear and tear (commonly found on a Disney vacation) on your own personal stroller.
Bonus Stroller Tips:
- Bring something to make your stroller stand out among the hundreds of others it will be parked aside. We usually bring a unique scarf tor handkerchief to wrap around the handle so the stroller can be easily spotted.
- Bring a cheap poncho and cover your stroller whenever you leave it for any length of time. It may not look like it is going to rain, but in Florida the weather is unpredictable and remember how we were trying to avoid the whining and crying? Well sitting in a wet stroller will defeat that.
I have many other tips and suggestions for getting around with a stroller at Disney, and would love to talk through them with you while planning your next Disney vacation.
