The Day My Husband Became a Jedi!

In December 2020, my husband and I traveled to Walt Disney World to celebrate his 30th birthday. It was a much-needed trip after all we have been through in 2020, and it was so nice to go to one of our favorite places, and feel safe! The best part of the trip, by far, was experiencing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for the first time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
My husband, Steve, is the biggest Star Wars fan I know. He has been looking forward to this day for years, and it was rescheduled several times due to all that the year 2020 has brought. He was so giddy and excited the morning of our Hollywood Studios day, and it truly reminded me of how Walt Disney World succeeds in bringing out the inner child in all of us. When I was thinking of how to recap this day, I thought the best way accurately portray how amazing Galaxy’s Edge is would be to interview my husband himself, who truly believes that as of December 5th, he is a real Jedi!
Dana: So, tell me how exactly you felt seeing Galaxy’s Edge for the first time?
Steve: I don’t know that I even can. It was probably one of the coolest things I have seen in 30 years. I honestly felt like I was walking right onto planet Batuu.
Dana: What was your favorite experience of the day?
Steve: I definitely think it had to be the Millennium Falcon ride. The Millennium Falcon is so iconic. To truly feel like Han Solo in such an immersive experience was the coolest thing ever. I also really liked having a Blue Milk. It kind of tasted funky, but I would assume it makes sense that an outer space drink tastes like something I have never had before.
Dana: What impressed you most in Galaxy’s Edge?
Steve: It has to be all of the little details that make you really feel like you are there. Disney always does a good job with that, but this was on another level. I was even impressed with the bathrooms. The faucets kind of float in the air and they play space music. I also thought it was really cool how Rei and Chewy were waiting on a bridge when we came out of the Millennium Falcon so guests could see them.
Dana: Any final thoughts on your experience in Galaxy’s Edge?
Steve: I have defeated the First Order, and I am a Jedi. Thank you, Disney.
As I hope you can see through Steve’s recap of our day, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is truly an immersive experience. Any Star Wars fan would be feeling that they stepped into their favorite universe, and those who aren’t fans of the franchise would still be impressed. There are a few things that we missed on our trip, such as Oga’s Cantina and Rise of the Resistance, but we cannot wait until the next time we head back to Galaxy’s Edge to experience them!
